I know this is a longshot... but I'm trying to round up a couple of darkslides for my newly acquired camera system (Bronica ETRSi). If you have one or two or can point me towards a good source please let me know!

Thanks in advance!

Be aware that the different backs come with different darkslides - in particular the latest EI back that came with the ETRSi has a locking darkslide, which the previous backs (that also fit the ETRSi body) don't have. I have no idea whether the older style darkslides will work in the new style back, or vice-versa (but I'm pretty sure that even if an old darkslide does work in a new back, it won't lock).

I see that keh.com has an "as is" 220 back for $1.79. It will come with a darkslide that will also work with the older style 120 back (not the latest EI style back). The only difference between the 120 and 220 backs is the insert that you load the film on; the back itself is identical. 220 backs tend to be cheap because 220 film is no longer available.

See Dead Link Removed.

Note - this is the oldest style back, with only one lever to open it. The later ETR back, and the EI back, have two levers. However AFAIK, the only difference between the older style and later style ETR back was the addition of the second opening lever, to prevent inadvertent opening of the back. So I expect, although am not certain, that the darkslide should be the same between the two ETR back styles - but of course not the same for the EI back with its locking darkslide.

(In case you haven't met KEH before, they're not necessarily the cheapest but are trustworthy and have excellent customer service.)

Oh I see there's also an "as is" EI 220 back for $1.29 - see Dead Link Removed.

If you don't know whether your backs are ETR type or EI type, then check the film wind knob on the back. If it's a knurled wheel, you have and ETR style back. If it's a winding crank, then you have an EI style back. (This is based on Internet info, as I only have ETR style backs myself). You can also tell because the darkslide for the EI back has a grey handle, wheras darkslide handles of the ETR backs are black. But I guess that won't help you much

In case I've just confused you in my ramblings, I suggest you check the film advance knob on your back:
- If it's a knurled wheel, get the darkslide from this back: Dead Link Removed.
- If it's a crank handle, get the darkslide that comes with this back: Dead Link Removed.

I have a complete system i don't use anymore. Any interest in a speedgrip, 150mm, polaroid back, the camera has a prism finder and 75mm, with 2 or 3 film backs. I also have the bronica 4 filter softnet filters.

Wow! Thank you Andrew for all of that thorough information! I've got two 220 backs coming from KEH. I just hope that the darkslides ARE infact included, taking into consideration lately my luck.
And bosbob thanks for your offer...I'll give it some consideration for sure.

Sincerely,

-Tim

Not entirely true on this. 'Late' ETR backs also have the knurled knob as opposed to the lever. EI darkslides can be used on early and late ETR backs. Late ETR and EI inserts are interchangable, but I cracked an EI shell by putting an 'Early' insert into it.

After a ton of looking, and getting quotes on having ones cut, I just bought 220 backs for the darkslides. Some of my shells were beat up, too, and the inserts are interchangable. I guess I'll have extra parts now!

If you're like me and only have the ETR backs, then darkslides from any back will work. Early ETR backs are the sturdiest, EI have locking darkslides, so the cheapest option is the 'Late' 220 backs. I've picked them up from KEH for $6.

On another note-- KEH has sent me mismatched backs before that haven't been noted. They've always worked perfectly, though, so I've never bothered to send anything back.

If you're willing to split things up, I'd be interested in the speed grip, maybe another back or two!

Thanks again to you all for the input. I've included a couple of links to pictures of my actual backs. I have a 120 and a 220, and both say "ETR" on the back face. Both have two release sliders and the film winders have folded cranks....not knurled. Sooooooo, I'm thinking these are the "EI" or late versions? If I'm not mistaken, I think I got lucky and ordered the correct EI 220 backs from KEH (per Andrew.Roos recommendation).

Is it true that you *can* use 220 backs with 120 film, only you've got to keep track of your shots at the end of the roll?

Thanks again. I really appreciate your help.

There is no problem with using any darkslide in any back, except that locking style ones (grey handle) will only lock on the late backs.
