I’ve decided that I’m going to succumb to my urge for a Pentax 6x7, at least to try it out and see if I like the bigger negatives more than my current Bronica ETRSi system. As such, I’m looking to buy or piece together a package on the cheap. Desired: 67 or 6x7 MLU body (can’t afford the II), TTL prism, normal (105/2.4 or any flavour of the 90/2.8) lens. Working condition a must, cosmetics are way down the list. Not having to send it to Eric for a CLA right out of the gate would be great.

Cheap is the operative word here. I have a pretty good idea of the cost of said items on the auction site, and I know what KEH’s bottom line is. I’d prefer to get something from an APUG member who knows his/her equipment, knows that it all works, has actually shot film with it, etc.

So please PM me with what you have and how much you want.

Thanks,

Ignatiu5

What I'm hoping to stumble across is something like (there was a url link here which no longer exists) ugly-but-working kit. I'm still killing myself over hesitating on that one; it was gone in the 20 minutes while I was "thinking" about it.

Anyone? Anyone? Anyone have something like this on their gear shelf?

I'll try one bump in the hopes that someone has decided to get rid of their P67 kit in the last 6 months. If I get no bites, I'll resign myself to either KEH or an auction. PM me if you've got something you think would fit the bill.

I'd be careful about buying a "beater."

It might work fine, or it might cost you more than buying a better camera from the start. However, there are no guarantees, and that "minty" camera might be a piece of junk.

You can read here and elsewhere posts in which people boast of slamming their cameras. I would steer clear of a "beater" camera. That's just inviting trouble. Some cameras can tolerate that abuse. Some can't.

I should amend my original post to say that if you have Pentax 6x7/67 with the standard prism instead of the TTL prism, that's okay too. I have a handheld meter.

Bump.

Now that my D2 enlarger and darkroom are set up after a move, I'm newly motivated to pursue trying out a Pentax 6x7. Still looking, but will modify the above to say that if you only have a body and prism, that's fine. I bought a lens from KEH.

Imagine that...I have a Pentax 67 sitting on the shelf that I haven't used in two years.

About my above post.....

It's a beater, but works fine. I haven't used it in a couple years, but had it checked over and tuned up at the repair shop last year. It has a 2.4/105 lens and wood grip.

The lens has some yellowing, but that's common with Takomur lenses. It has no noticeable effect on the images.

If you want it you can have it for the cost of shipping, with the understanding that if and when you're done with it you won't sell it, but rather pass it along to another aspiring photographer or photography school.

International shipping might be a little pricey from Canada though, albeit I'm only 5 miles from Detroit.

Thanks to the generosity of Dave, a new-to-me Pentax 6x7 arrived from the motherland safe and sound. It's a sunny day in Philly, so I think I'll load some FP4 and head to some of the seedier areas of the city. I mean, hey, I've now got a weapon, right?

Thanks Dave!
