I'm an Old Pensioner so cannot pay a huge fee but I want a Mains Unit for Mecablitz Hammer Head flashes such as 45 CT and CL1 and 45 CL-4 NOT the unit which you plug into the Battery to charge it . I think the Number for the Mains Unit is N21

I believe that the correct model number of the mains unit for the 45 CL-1 and 45 CL-4 is either of the N 22 or the N 23 - both are referred to in the instruction manuals for those flashes.
The N 22 comes with a standard cable. The N 23 requires a choice between two different cables but provides faster recycling.
The manual for the 45 CT-1 specifies either the N 20 or N 21.
The N 20 provided faster recycling but requires a special connector 45-55 that allows you to connect two flashes at the same time.
I don't know whether there are any complications induced by differences between UK mains voltages and mains voltages elsewhere.

Thanks Matt -- I want to 'source' such a unit nearer to UK if possible.

YES -- the mains unit for 45 CL-3 and 45CL-4 IS Different -- there are 3 pins in the socket on left under the flash head whereas the 45CT-1 has 2 pins and socket is smaller.
By the way -- my Battery Charger units I have -- i have 2 British ones with the 3 pins and can set 240 Volts and 2 GERMAN ones with the 45-CL1 flashes I was donated by a Camera Club member and they c an only be set to 120 Volts OR 220 VOLTS and have the German 2 pins . Also, ONE of them is marked 'Typ 729 7V 600Ma where the other is type 402.12 i 8 V 450mA --- which is correct to use ? The Donor said he had used the 220 V in UK on 240 V mains OK to charge batteries.

Those look like they were for the old 402 flashes - much older than your 45 series flashes.
I had one of the 402 units with a NiCad battery, but it wasn't nearly as much fun as the version with lead acid batteries that had to be regularly topped up with distilled water!

The orignal Metz documentation is the source of this information:
  • The 45CT1 uses the N21 Mains unit, recycle time 16 sec.
  • The 45CT4 uses the N22 Mains unit; plug in while the flash is Off.
The units are clearly marked 'N21' or 'N22' on the factory markings.

Optionally the 45CT1 can use the N20, which requires the 45-55 cord, and two units can be powered with the N20; recycle time 4 sec.

Guys, you mixing up terms and devices. (I know, the situation is confusing.)
But with these Metz flashes there are
-) mains units to feed the flashes for immediate operation
-) mains units to charge the batteries

I want the Mains Units for immediate Operation ---- N21 and N22 I showed the ones to charge the batteries.

There is ONE N22 on the American e-bay from 'Gary Cameras' he wants $45 for it 'Or Offer' and there is a HUGE Shipping Fee to UK which make it very expensive for me -- he declined 2 offers latest one $32 ....... Then I saw on the photo it says '120 V' when our Mains in England is 230 Volts . Would the British mains Voltage FRY it ?

Would the British mains Voltage FRY it ?
Either that, or the two together would FRY your flash.
It would probably work in conjunction with a 230V - 120V adapter designed to permit use of US electrical equipment in the UK. You would need to be sure that the adapter had sufficient current capacity.

Thanks Matt == all getting far too expensive for me so I will try 'ordinary' batteries --

Or find a used Quantum Turbo (preferably not the Turbo 2+2 which uses NiMH which have to be replaced more frequently than alkaine Turbo)...2 sec recycle from full power output

The cheaper alternative to the Metz mains-supply would be, as you seemingly already got the cage for primary cells (alkaline batteries), to use that with AA-size NiMh cells instead and buy a cheap universal AA-charger that takes at least the required number of cells.
Such would cost you about 40Euro (charger and one set of AAs).
