As stated in post #1, the question is ambiguous.

Do you have a 50 mm enlarging lens for which you need a retaining ring?

Or do you want a 50 mm diameter retaining ring for a much larger lens?

Here is a 39 mm diameter retaining ring that is used on many (but not all) enlarging lenses of 50 mm focal length and other lenses commonly used on 35 mm and medium format enlargers. The size is 39 mm diameter x 26 thread-per-inch Leica thread (55-degree Whitworth thread).

If you're in a pinch you can make one. Thin wood or thick plastic work well, and I've done it several times on different enlargers. Just make a hole in the material that's approximately the same size as the inner diameter of the threads (not the outer diameter, but in between) and self thread that onto your lens. Ace Hardware is good too. You can look at their thin plastic retainers (bring your lens to match things up accurately) and self thread it onto the lens if it isn't the same pitch. A metal lens will self thread into any plastic retainer quite easily.

Ian, TY for the reply, Im looking for a 50mm retaining ring to mount a 120mm WA Rodenstock to the lens board. Was hoping not to pay B&H +$50. None on ebay. So keeping fingers cross for this forum.

Momus, I am so curious about using the lens I think I'm going to do so! I was going to use a bunch of rubber bands. Your right, Ace or Home Depot should have something more stable. Thanks for the words of courage - I needed that for the weekend :D

I never heard of them! Thank you, will do, as well as look at their items. Oh boy, that's the sound of money flying out of my wallet...

Bernard! I read bottom up! So sorry!!! Yours was the best info! Who doesn't love a new source! TYTYTY! Cheers!

Update, after tinkering with old telescope t-rings, the mere weight of the glass really is a concern when looking for a DIY mount ring. I took member Bernard's advice, looked into customphototools.com. Decided to order a new board (4x4) that comes with the appropriate 50mm 75 thread ring. I'll follow up to report on the quality of the board/ring. As for the price, even with shipping from Portugal to Los Angeles it all came under $50.00!!! Can't get a used 50mm board (nor ring) on ebay for that! Thx for everyone's suggestions and input.
