300mm f9 Nikon M is in a Copal #1

What about a Tele-Arton or similar they will be in smallish shutters, the 270mm f5.5 Tele Arton is in a Compur #1. The problem with a normal 300mm lens on a 5x4 camera is you're normally on full extension making the camera much more prone to vibration, wind etc, because a Telephoto lens focusses much closer (far less extension) the combination is much more stable.

I'm using a 17" (430mm) f5.6 telephoto with a Speed Graphic and it's quite practical unlike the 300mm f9 Nikon M on my Wista which need good weather. a wind less day and good light so I can use a reasonably fast shutter speed.

So I suggest you look into the Telephoto options for 5x4. Welcome to APUG BTW and good to see you start as a Subscriber :D
