I'm a bit confused about what sort of lamp should be in my 23c II. I have the manual for the "XL" model and it says it should have a ph140 (see link one) lamp in it. But mine appears to have a ph111a (link two) lamp in it. Notice the threads on the 140 and none on the 111a. I am not able to get the lamp out of the white thing that it plugs into either by twisting or pulling so I'm not positive which lamp is actually in the head but a spare 111a is in the box of darkroom stuff that i got with it so I'm assuming it is this one. Also the white "female outlet" for the bulb appears to have two channels for the little "nubs" on either side of the 111a. Two questions:

1) Which is the correct lamp?

2)how do I remove the lamp itself? (it has some side to side (twisting) give like maybe it wants you to line up the nubs w/ the channels but it still won't come out.) I'm afraid to pull too hard and brake the cap assembly as they are apparently over $100 to replace!

Also, instead of the condensers the head had a dga dichro diffusion housing in it when i bought it. Could the lamp assembly have been modified to work with a different lamp for this set up? (though the lamps are virtually identical except for 120v vs 125v)

I don't know which lamp you should have...but if you have a spare 111 lamp, I would guess that is the one your enlarger is configured to take.

That being said, the way to remove the 111 lamp is to press dowward and turn to the left. There are two slots in the lamp socket that have protrusions to lock the two nubs into place.

The 5 volt difference in the specifications of the two lamps is insignificant.

Push Down!! Yes, Brilliant! You would think that a hyper intelligent psycho robot ape such as myself would not be fooled so easily but it is a sad fact that our robotic species was intentionally designed to be incapable of openning childproof devices for our own safety : (
