I wouldn't. Although I don't use my F5 as often as my F3 I won't trade it. It's worth a lot less to a potential person than to me.

Crisis averted. I was having an emotional response to being in the shop. The excitement got to me since I haven’t been in a place like that for years now. I’ll keep the F5. I may not have an emotional attachment to it, but I’ve sold things in the past and regretted it. F2’s are still available all day, every day, and in great numbers, and mine is scheduled for Sover’s service in about 13 months. With the amount of shooting I’m doing and trying to continue doing these days, I may find that I’ll need the advanced shutter speeds and other luxuries the F5 offers in the future. I slept on it and thankful that I did.

Now to go shoot some film today!

You’ll need an F2 to stand in for your other one when you send it in:whistling:

It looks like an awesome shop, you gotta. buy something there.

That would be a no-brainer for me, the F5 is far too large & heavy for my uses. That said, I’d probably just buy the F2, that price is extremely good for an F2 with a lens, then sell the F5 elsewhere and spend the rest of the F5 proceeds on film

Unfortunately the spousal unit handed me a resounding “absolutely hell no you aren’t buying another camera.”

How complicated are divorces? :D

New development.

The spousal unit has inquired about the camera shop. I have heard the beginning of what is sounding like permission.

Might it work out for me.

The F3 didn’t appeal to me when it came out. I needed a camera so I bought one. I grew to love it. I have a mint copy now in my cabinet. The Nikon burgundy leather case, made in Japan is beautiful, the half case is more modern, slips on like a Leica case.
Best manual focus camera Nikon ever made that's for sure.

If this is one with a photomic head, you should buy it immediately. It has the reliable wire resistor that won't wear out on you.

Coupled with the legendary 50mm F2, it is a steal.

I think it’s just the DP-1 finder like my black one. Match needle.

I

I think I did. It was an original from like the 30’s or 40’s if I remember correctly. Also handled an M4 before the M6. I can see the appeal of the M6, but I still don’t understand the price tag.

Use what could be considered a rival and you will. I've owned Bessa R3A, Zeiss Ikon ZM, Nikon S2 and SP (still have the S2) and none come close.

Anyway, the point someone made about harvesting other old cameras for parts to repair broken old cameras... well, if those parts broke, by harvesting from other old cameras you are using old worn parts to replace old worn broken parts.
It's not like you're using new parts. So you're still left with a camera that may again break soon.

.. Why do you think every single digit di$*tal camera, looks like a F5?t

None do unless you know of a single digit one that has a removable head? They all look like the F6, which makes sense as that was the best film camera Nikon ever made.

Now is the time to strike! Women love being photographed with Hasselblads. Sell everything and buy a Hasselblad and lenses now.

hey C
why not use the f5 until it dies and then get a replacement?
and you already have an f2 they seem to last at least as long as my 40 year old
Pentax k1000 ... unless you are filling your bilge with camera equipment to use as ballast
then I'd buy as many cameras as you can find .

its too bad the internet has a way of convincing people they always need more gear...

It was so much better in the old days, when that was the job of magazine writers, friends and camera store salespeople! :D

Do I need it? Absolutely not.
Do I want it? Absolutely so.
Am I going to force the square peg into the round hole to get it? Nope.

I spent the day today doing product photography for the spousal units new company. It was nice to be creative and use my studio lighting skills again.

I have 4 35mm cameras, 2 RFs and 2 Nikon SLRs (with a wide array of lenses). I use the Leica RF almost exclusively. I don't feel the need to have a duplicate of any camera, except the medium format SLR that gets used 10 times as much as the 35mm.

Would you trade an F5?

I own two chrome Nikon F2 bodies with standard prism and one black Nikon F2 body with standard prism. If I had the chance to trade an F5 body for a Nikon F2 black titanium body with standard prism, I would without hesitation. Otherwise, no, I would not trade.

F6 was a program to reduce cost, put a little better focus, and sell a suite of rechargeable batteries, a 400 dollar plus MB-40, holder grip, expensive charger etc. I had a 3, a 5 and now have a D6. All the single digit di##al cameras feel like the F5. Thank God Nikon didn't use the super annoying little lock button on the F5, required to power up the camera. F6 looks like a F100, which looks like the 3 digit ###tal slrs
The newest, coming soon, if they don't go broke, is the Zed 9, looks like a F5.

Don't misunderstand me, F6 is a great camera. I remember being all excited when he F6 was announced, believe me I would have been first in line. I was so disappointed that it cost reduced out interchangeable viewfinders and plenty of on board power.

I wonder if the F6 specs changed when the F100 was such a spectacular hit.

And of course the F5 requires bear paw hands.I have a couple F2 cameras with MD-2 drives and the MB battery packs that take 10 AA cells. :D:laugh::ninja:

Yeah, I have one F2 plain prism in chrome. To find a nice F2 plain prism today it's going to be 500 bucks, not 190, or whatever the OP was being offered a F2 for.

I use medium format at least 10 times what I do 35mm. If I could still buy 20 exposure rolls of black and white film I might be more interested. I did buy a brick of 24 exposure, still too long. I have a pan adapter for my Mamiya 6 MF. 35mm is fun in that!!

How many exposures do you get on a 24 or 36 cassette?
That's a great question. All I've shot is 36 exp I think I'm getting 20 shots. 24x56mm I think. I have two of these cameras. If I could only have one model of camera, this is it. I used to say that about Fuji GW690III cameras. I still LOVE the Fuji cameras, but they are LOUD!!! Enough that it's hard to use for candid work.

The Mamiya 6mf is small, quiet and has 3 great lenses. Framelines, parallax corrected on and on.
