I would, just to have a nice story to tell people. xD lol

Might make a great picture too!

I wouldn't punch him in the face because if I hit his Leica it would really hurt, but I would kick him in the nuts!

I've seen some of his other work and consider it much superior to his flash-in the face stuff.

If I met him, I would smile. You know what? He hates that! He doesn't want people to smile into the camera lens! So smile. Constantly. Look and point at the lens. Yeah, he can photograph me. And I'll mug for the lens, which is exactly what he doesn't want.

... Photography would be a bit more boring without him I think, though we could do with a few less of his imitators! ...

Charlie Kirk (Two Cute Dogs on Flickr) has been labeled an imitator by a number of people. They seem to have a very similar working style - and similar criticism surrounding it.

No...it's a refreshing departure from being hit up for spare change.

Best regards,

Bob

I'm being sarcastic. The guy is one of my photographic idols but I am pretty sure it'd scare the shit out of me if he got the jump on me like he has on some people.

Without a doubt! Then I would likely proceed to insert both his camera as well as his flash.... As someone who shoots on the street, one of my primary protocols is to adopt a sort of "passive demeanor," the object being to show to my subject a sort of neutrality: that I as a photographer am there to record an event (or, simply, life) unfolding, not to provoke - or create (artificially) an incident or - a reaction to record. Gilden's modus operandi does a disservice to those of us who shoot on the street: we come across to the public as arrogant, rude, ill-mannered, inconsiderate and intrusive. Just what the world needs: more incivility!

I think this is a disgusting concept, to even consider punching anybody in the face, and I find the subject of this thread disgusting and ask Sean or any moderator to please close it. Violence against anybody is not funny. Thanks, Sean.

Gosh, really Kevin? I assume you are not very familiar with "humour" or "emoticon", aren't you?
I already underlined this is not a serious thread, but apparently you didn't read it or didn't understand.

Don't worry, nobody is going to attack anyone for taking pictures.
As a matter of fact, this thread is convincing me there is no situation, when anyone would punch or harm in any way a photographer taking photos of a person. I'm pretty sure - and this is an important conclusion - photographed people can be sometimes aggressive, but rather in verbal manner. The only risk photographer is taking would be when he/she enters some dangerous areas, but in that areas, everyone can be robbed, not only picture-takers.

I understand humour and emoticon and take deep offence to the title of your post, about PUNCHING somebody in the FACE (or anywhere) and I kindly ask any moderator to please remove or kindly retitle this post. Violence is not funny. Please understand that. Thank you.

Nope; I'd kick him in the kneecap.

Oh, come off it. Your apparent total lack of humor and your preaching that there are verboten topics for jokes are far more offensive to me than a freaking figurative joke. Lay off the literalism and have some fun. Either answer the question or ignore the thread. Don't come take a dump on a joke just because you don't think it's funny.

I didn't even read the thread because I find the concept of violence against anybody a serious issue, not a joke, and I still request this thread to be either removed or retitled. Thank you.

In the name of political correctness, violence as humor is supposed to be no laughing matter.

Just ask Larry, Curly, and Moe.

Which is why some folks want to punch him in the face!

So, you'd like to see the thread killed...
:eek:eeeeek!

I think Bruce Gilden would not object to this thread. He would probably vote for "yes" option

I think he'd get a kick out of it! Oh wait, that's more violence!

I suggest a new thread- "Would you discreetly wag your index finger at Bruce Gilden from a respectful distance?"

As soon as someone raises his or her hand and makes it clear they don't want to be photographed, I stop right there.
If someone shoves a camera in my face, I think my reaction would be to grab the hard metal/plastic object and either shove it away from
my face, or pull it toward me.
There was a woman in Little Rock who was doing this sort of thing, and I followed her for a while, taking many photos of her at work.
She got offended and told me to shove off... in far ruder words. I grinned and kept snapping until she left in a huff.

I wouldn't go passing laws or using other types of force to tell folks how to behave, but don't be surprised if a rude photographer gets a little of
her own medicine from time to time.

I almost spit my tea out at the screen when I read this... LOL

I, on the other hand don't agree that this thread should be deleted or retitled, it provides interesting conversation on the topic of street photography, and some of the confrontational aspects of it, and proof on how almost everyone on this thread would NOT resort to actual violence. Free speech, and interesting thread topics are what moves people in this forum to converse. To have to stifle valid topics hurts the community, and deters the next person from speaking his voice, and which may lead to all following suit under the air of political correctness.
