Is this "p. a." 'per annum'? In other works, about three or four per day? - David LygaHello David,
Leica is producing more than 1,000 film based M Leicas p.a..
And the demand is increasing for quite some time now.
This data is official by Leica, from last Photokina.
Best regards,
Henning
What is an MP and how is it different from an M6, M4 or MA???
Not knowing what a 'Leica MP' is, I went to their website to check for film camera. A search for "Film" turned up blank for cameras. Maybe I'll ask here. What is an MP and how is it different from an M6, M4 or MA???

The MP and the M-A are the only film cameras listed under the heading "Leica M System" under Photography.
And you are right, there is nothing in the description of them that would lead you to guess that it they are film cameras, save and except the reference to a winder on one of the sub-menus.
I'm curious - is there no mention of film on the version of the site in German?
OK so that means only about four per day, worldwide: one in New York, one in London, one in Berlin ... Not many for a nearly $5000 body!!!
Indeed. I wonder how these numbers compare to Ondu, Zero image, Harman and other pinhole camera makes.

How long have you been saying that?well, yes, but keep in mind that a LOT of potential buyers, like me (if I had that sort of money) are patiently waiting for our existing M3 and M4s to wear out before we spend $5,000 on a camera body that is essentially the same thing.
Any day now ....

MP is a M6TTL without TTL-OTF flash metering, a retro style pain in the but rewind crank and retro appearance. It looks fabulous, if it only had a M4, M6 rewind crank it would be perfect. A modern interpretation of the original MP, black paint on a brass top cover, absolutely beautiful. As long as there are multi millionaires there will be film Leicas. The tooling is paid for Leica probably nets 2,000 bucks a unit. M7 never did it for me, incredible camera, but battery dependent. Not knowing what a 'Leica MP' is, I went to their website to check for film camera. A search for "Film" turned up blank for cameras. You speak with a forked tounge. I don't want to be around to see the day that Leica stops making film cameras. Think of the buyers as Patrons of the Art of Photography. Nope it's good to have rich people who buy this stuff. By the way don't think 4 grand would buy a MPI couldn't care less if Leica stopped making new film cameras altogether. I get why they do, fools and their money and all that. They don't need to though. Want a meter? M6, M7. Don't want a meter? M3, 2, 4, 4-2. 4-P. SO many choices.
A good M4 is just as good as a brand spanking new MA, at a fraction of the cost. Plus it has a history to it, and my personal conspiracy theory is that Leica today does not exactly make them like they used to.
In my perfect world, I think Leica should just commit to keeping any and all Ms running by either stocking or fabricating new parts. Commit to restorations and CLAs. That's a lot more useful than brand new film cameras for people who just haaaave to spend $4 grand on something shiny and untouched.
I'll keep shooting my F6 and LX now.![]()
