I always like it when it falls on my birthday...makes it easy to remember to go out and shoot something! As it is I have a new pinhole camera to try this year, hopefully the weather cooperates.

Likewise, it's my paternal aunt's birthday on April 29th and I have a new camera, the Woodbläk, to try.

April already. Shit, time flies...
I just hope it isn't raining on Pinhole Day... the tail end of April here is notorious for doing just that.

So what's the deal with wppd? Everyone is supposed to take a photo that day, or post a photo that they've taken with their photo on wppd? Sorry for the basic question. This will be the first year I can participate.

You asked the question then answered it just-so! A pinhole photograph on World Pinhole Photography Day.
They allow you until the middle or end of May to get your single entry in (one entry only, no multiples), made only with a pinhole camera of whatever configuration it is, whether home-made (the diversity and oft-noted simplicity is vast), commercially-made or a pinhole cap on a digital camera (as odd as it sounds, plenty of folk actually do that...).

Yes! At the site I linked in the OP there are tabs across the top, one titled How to Participate which pretty well covers it. That site also has a tab for Resources which has lots of info. The gallery tab can allow you to check out work submitted each year all the way back to 2001. (It's a trifle sobering to realize my own participation goes back to 2005.)

Last year I shot a few images on 8X10 but didn't realize the sun was shinning thru the tree's right onto my pinhole - flair all over the place. Will be a tad more cautious this year.

Wow! This interaction got me inspired, fabricated a new pinhole tonight. The original in my 8x10 cracked, presumably a result of 1 mil brass stock that had been sanded and chemically blackened being subjected to stress as the wood blocks clamping it expanded and contracted (although it held up for a couple of years). Anyway, last year I made a new one that was slightly larger and decided, after viewing the results, going back nearer the original might be desirable. I did use 2 mil stock for this one -- we shall see! I already have something scheduled for that morning, but that will just force me to plan ahead a little better than my old retired self sometimes does.

Sound interesting. I've seen high quality 8x10 pinhole photos before. Would like to see a photo of the camera when you get a chance.

Well it was just a new pinhole plate, the basic camera remains unchanged. You can learn more about it than you likely want to know in a corner of my PBase galleries! The brass shim stock was subjected to a dimple-and-sand exercise and blackened -- well, darkened -- with Blacken-It, a model railroad treatment. That page has links to some of the results in various years. so far I've pretty much settled on Fuji HR-T X-ray film -- at least until the 100 sheet package runs out!

"Ransel", I think it's ok to let the sun shine in, sometimes the rays can be quite beautiful.

Mr Thomas has a beautiful camera with which he as graced us with some fine images over the years,
Expecting more of the same  Anyone remember 'Sarge' from f/295? well, he would've added some 'pepper'
to that encouragement [bless him wherever he is]...

This year I've apparently scheduled a meetup on that day, will be at Filoli...

I have a couple of spare pinners if someone wants or needs one. The one on the left has been modified to use 120 film, all you need is a cable release and set the shutter to B or T. Camera on the right is 620 film, or respool 120 onto a 620 core. See my ad in the classifieds.

Wow! Thanks -- but at my advanced age I'm not sure I can handle this pressure to perform! But indeed, I shall give it a try. :whistling: I know some fine work by dasBlute and others in this thread appears in the Pinhole Day galleries for previous years.

In one of the early years I did WPPD, I did an all day wandering around eastern Pennsylvania, probably close to 400 miles. For some reason, the last few years have had schedule conflicts. So I might end up with photos of stacks of cut firewood from massive wind and snow damage right here at home! Hopefully I can do a little better.

The idea is that everyone takes pinhole photos on the same day (in your time zone) all over the world. Pick your favorite and submit it to the gallery. You have until the end of. May to finish your image and submit it.

...it could be open for a while. I am anticipating a rainforest shoot. With fog. And without rain.

I'll be headed up to Koya-san (Buddhist complex up on a mountain) on this day, which is famous for its wooded cemetery. If it's raining I think I'll have difficulties with the low light, but if it's at least overcast (or better) I should be okay. I'm thinking I might try to shoot colour pinhole this year, something I've never done.

Today will be fun, built me two cameras this year, one for exchangeable papers and one for exchangeable 4x5" film! and then a third Holga WPC 6x12 for rollfilm.

The "square can" will magazine 5 papers, with one towards the hole, and the rest facing the lid until I change using a changingbag. The film can is similar but will not handle more than one cheat, and then I have a small 10x15cm picture book inside a black bag in my changing bag in which I can store each cheat until they are developed!

None of the cans are completed in these pictures, but they speak enough

Well I hope everyone gets out and makes lots of pinhole photographs today. I'm in Phoenix Az and am going to attend a WPPD event hosted by Art Intersection today. Should be fun to meet a bunch of other pinhole photographers and there's a pot luck BBQ afterwards. Being the complete loser I am this year I'll be using a store bought 8x10 camera, a fancy carbon fiber tripod, a high end digital light meter, film in modern film holders, and several apps on my iPhone. May next year I'll build my own camera, as I do have some ideas, it's just that WPPD really snuck up on me this year. On Tuesday I'm going to Art Intersection's rental darkroom to process and hopefully print a few of my images. Have fun everyone!!!

Steady rain here today. I'll try to figure out something, but a pinhole shot from near the couch is a real possibility.
