Paris (France) was the most atractive city to artists around the globe. During SecondWorldWar many important artsts moved from Paris to NYC, which soon became what Paris used to.
- Do you think that something is wrong with NYC nowadays?
- What city today is the most artistically important in the world?

Art is rare these days; entertainment took its place. So, I think Las Vegas disgracefully replaced NYC and Paris.

Don't think there is (or was ) one. But I would say Beijing, Mumbai, Amsterdam, New York are all great creative hotspots

No, there's nothing wrong with NYC that a lot of money won't cure

Remember that NYC is 5, count 'em, 5 boroughs. Manhattan has become too expensive for a lot of creative people who haven't "made" it yet, so Queens, and Brooklyn have sort of replaced Manhattan for many. (And so has the Hudson River "coast" of New Jersey for that matter.)

The `art scene´ is globalizing, there will be less chance for an art metropole to grow or sustain.

Today with the internet so accessible the art world might be the world it self . A emerging artist can't afford to rent or stay in NY or other large metro place's to sell, show or discuss his art,but they could on the internet. They would not have to go to Paris,NY,ect. I think also that the economy right now hinders a lot of buying of art, which would affect the artist. Not that art is not being done, it still there some where, maybe just a little spread out. Actually there's a lot right hear on Apug.

I've been hearing and reading a lot of good things about Berlin of late. A lot of new museums and a lot of government interest and support for the arts.
