Workshops/Conference DVD?

Are there any plans to produce a recording of these workshops for those that cant attend?

Could it be organised? I would gladly contribute towards the cost.

I had the intent to do so, got partial approval, not from Sean, but from Bob I believe it was, and left off at that without further inquire to Sean. I was going to cover the conference and the workshops if possible. Things have been quite tumulteous this year for me and I've had to put the idea on the back burner and not followup. Right now I'm considering if it's even worth the trouble for me to pursue. There is alot of work and cost to shooting something properly and producing a professional product. Good editors are not cheap ($75 to $125 an hour) and it takes time to edit something properly, especially if the buyer has their hands in the editing process. Also encoding a DVD, if that's what you want, is a $100 an hour my cost for many hours. You can quite easily run into the 12 to 16 hour time frame depending on length of video. Extra equipment would have to be rented, and some equipment I have that I can bring would have extra airline freight charges. Whatever output you produce you have to buy quanity to get it re-produced cheaply. In essence, unless someone here is a professional editor, can offer their labor, and maybe encode a DVD, the cost for everything can easily (and this is cheap) run into the $2k to $10K range, again depending on produced length. Yo've got to figure that this would be like a 3, 4 day documentary. Now I'm just a cameraman with a camera. I would probably have to rent an additional light setup, plus maybe rent some C- stands, a second wireless if needed and other odd equipment like flags, bounce cards etc up there. Then it would be good to have a host to actually interview and talk to people and a grip to help move the equipment in the rented van. After I thought about it, I figured it would be easier for me to just show up with my 4x5 or MF camera and have fun.

Have downloadable videos been considered? I don't know much about costs, but I would imagine it would be much less than producing DVDs. Give the purchaser 7 days or so to download the video as many times as desired. You wouldn't have to worry about ordering a huge number to reduce costs and there would be no inventory to deal with.

I just had a conversation yesterday with my friend and video editor Doug about making video's downloadable. His reply was that although it was doable, the standard nowdays was Video Streaming. His impression was that no one would be interested in downloading a 2 to 3 hour file for a 1/2 hour video. (These were round about figures btw). Doug is now involved in setting up a Video Streaming site, but it will probably be done later then sooner.

If anything, maybe someone will show up with a camera and we could put a slide show together. A little audio track could be spliced into a edited presentation. ( I have wired and wireless mic's) If you or anyone else is up for this, post a note here or PM me and let's see what a group of us could do. Essentially it would be easier then for me or someone else trying to do a complete video with editing and streaming.
