Darkroom Workshop
With Apug.org’s own
Les McLean

When: 27/28/29 of May 2005
Where: at my darkroom in Everman, Texas 76140
Everman is on the out-skirts of Fort Worth, Texas
On a good map this is just outside the Loop 820 on the
South side of town. When you sign up we will provide a detailed map of the area.
What will Les cover: This is a copy and paste from an email from Les where he says,

I will cover:
Split grade printing and printing with graded papers.
f stop printing using RH Designs Stop Clock Pro which I will bring
Single, two bath and water bath development.
The benefits of using different developer dilutions and variations in time.
Pre and post flashing including burning in with white light using the RH Designs paper flasher.
Burning and dodging.
Toning using selenium and gold toners.
If time allows perhaps one evening we can do some lith printing, this will be a fun night.
Print Critique
I will also bring negatives and prints so that the people can see what I print from and the final prints I make.
I also enjoy using students negatives for my own demonstrations during the workshop for it is a better way for them to appreciate the methods that I'm teaching rather that me use a negative that I've print a thousand times. They can experience the thinking process that I apply to each image that I print for the first time and also the way that I apply the judgments that need to be made.
It would also be nice to get out and expose some film with them but we have a lot to fit in, however, I'm happy to work as many hours as it takes so we can print through the evening is that is possible. A workshop is not a 9 to 5 experience in my book.

Cost: $350 for the 3 days

For those coming in from out of town there is a Quality Inn about one mile from the workshop and I am trying to get a group discount for workshop attendees.

So, here is a great opportunity to hone your darkroom skills with other like-minded people. Please make your plans now first come first served.

you may email me at click76112@charter.net or Pm me here at APUG.ORG lee is the user name

Les' workshop is one of the best things you can do. It will quantum leap your darkroom work forward. Well worth the money for what you get. I highly reccomend this workshop.

Count me in Lee. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to improve their skills. The amount of $ you will save in the future from wasting materials will make up the cost very quickly. Lee is also a great host and a neat guy to get to know.

There is a VERY GOOD chance I can make it also. We planned to visit our granddaughter in Austin around the end of May (Her B'day is May 27). I need a few weeks to put it together but include me in head count matters.

thanks Ron I have not seen or heard from you in awhile

I will be bringing down a couple of ULF cameras to Lee's for the workshop for everyone to review. I will have film available for anyone who wants to shoot with the 7x17 and a box of AZO there if we have time to print any of them.

Jim, This will be so nice...the idea of even SEEING a 7x17, much less shooting one..very nice.

Lee, sounds like the workshop is shaping up.

Yup Mike it looks like this will be a good one.

here is the motel info I have promised

Comfort Inn (not Quality Inn as stated earlier sorry)
3232 SE Loop 820
Forest Hill, TX 76140

817-551-5200
Mgr is Shila Patel

He is giving us a dicounted rate for the workshop so please mention this. Regular rate for this time of year is $69 + tax. Discounted rate is $59 + tax. not much but every thing helps. It is about 2 miles from the workshop.

bump-

I'm going to bump this thread every once in a while so new members will be aware of the workshop in Fort Worth with Lee and Les in May.

Well, I'm signed up! :D Look forward to seeing that huge camera of yours, Jim!
Also look forward to meeting fellow APUGers! Did I mention how much I'm looking forward to actually learning something??? haha

OK Lee.. I am game .... Must get some feedback on my printing binge, and to be honest, I can use any informed help I can get. If any one would like to split a room for the weekend, please email me..... Guys only, please. ( My wife would not approve otherwise!)

Grant,

We have 11 members of Apug.org signed up as of today. I am comfortable in signing up one more person. Would you like that to be you? PM me if so.
