Had forgotten about nose grease but remember from college in the 80s it worked well. But was it emulsion or the back of the neg?

My scratch was on the non-emulsion side and it worked very well. I have no idea if it'll work on the emulsion side. I kind of think it won't as density on that side is variable and scratch can remove the emulsion.

Can anyone offer advice on fixing a long scratch on the emulsion side of a 35mm negative (Tri-X) that was created in a Widelux camera while winding the film?

If this scratch has penetrated the surface layer of gelatin and disturbed the image, it is not repairable.

You could print the negative normally and spot the mark out.

Otherwise, you could scan the negative, digitally repair the damage then print to transparency.
