I don't think anyone has mentioned Inga Morath she was the first female Magnum photographer she was born in Austria and later became an American citizen, she was married to Arthur Miller for forty years after he and Marylin Munro divorced. I admire this woman a great deal and her work is really worth looking at.

Not many people have mentioned Cindy Sherman, but she would be high on my list. There are critics who rate her as not only one of the greatest photographers, but one of the greatest artists of any kind in the modern era.

I wouldn't rank her in the pantheon of the best of the best, but Eudora Welty is a sleeper as an honorable mention. She is obviously better known for her writing, but she did some worthy photography for a time. She worked the same ground as the Farm Security Administration photographers in depicting the Depression-era South. But Welty was coming more from the perspective of a sympathetic insider, more of a member ot those communities, which the Farm Security folks mainly were not. https://deepsouthmag.com/2019/04/23/photographs-by-eudora-welty/

Glad you took a closer look she’s good.

Although Debbie Caffery seems to be more innocent in her intentions of photographing her family and three kids than Sally Mann that to me seeks some "commercial" purpose

Yes I have mentioned her. But not for the same reasons 😀

Gerda Taro(Robert Capa's partner in the Spanish Civil War.) Run over by a tank 1936
Berenice Abbott
Lisette Model
Imogen Cunningham
Lee Miller
Francis Johnston
Barbara Davidson
Victoria Sambunaris

Tina Modotti, who learned from Edward Weston, was already mentioned

Hope this helps.
