For younger readers of APUG Charlie Chan was a fictional character in many movies and books during the 1930's and 1940's. He was portrayed as a Chinese-American detective fond of aphorisms. Which brinds me to the purpose of this post. One of these sayings was "Man who seek ride should not insult horse." In other words when asking for help don't antagonize the people from whom you wish help. 'Nuff said?

I might add that I like the saying because it works for all three meanings of verb insult.

Sure, but if the horse bucks or throws you to the ground the ride may not have been worth it.

"Man who cook carrots and peas in same pot, very unsanitary."

Amen. Seen a lot more of this than people insulting horses.
