This is a digi shot taken from the city web cam located atop a lighthouse along the St. John river.
Seems like this winter is shaping up much like last years. Not much inspiration for a B&W shooter.

This shot would certainly have looked a lot better in B&W!

True Hans but the building is locked up tight for the winter. Can't even access the lower deck.

Mike,

We had flurries yesterday but no accumulation in Central Canada. Toronto had another green Christmas and that is just so wrong on many levels (speaking as a transplanted Montrealer). I ski in the winter and I am watching my season's pass at my favourite hill gather dust.

Skiing must be good in New Mexico:smile:

Pedantry alert...

People often use the phrase "winter of discontent" to signify a winter marked by a lack of contentment. What Richard II was saying is that it was now wintertime for his ongoing discontentment...ie: it was in its final season and about to end.

So as it was for Richard, I hope your discontentment is about to end.

What I should have said was "This is my winter of Discount Tent".
Some Canadian APUGer must get the Red Green connection.

It's an El Nino winter - comes around every five or so years.

NW gets slammed with tons of rain and snow (ditto CA).

In AZ desert it brings the "Winter rains" that lead to the big "Spring blooms". They had snow on the Catalinas and Rincons in Tucson the other day.

And the Northeast winds up with mild, dry weather - where's the snow?!

Meanwhile, our good friends down in OZ wind up with Summer drought and fires etc.

Not to worry too much.* Usually El Nino one Winter (Northern) is followed by a La Nina the next and then your digicam shot will be deep in snow! :D

* El Nino and La Nina have nothing to do with Global Warming, per se. But the increasing monitoring of the latter has resulted in better understanding of the former!

To update Winnapeg Manitoba (Winterpeg to Canadians) got nailed with a foot of wet snow. Looks like the season is re-aligning slowly.

It's +9c out there today or low 50's F.

RG is thought to be from the UP in Wisconsin and Michigan.

Frank

Just a point of geography... even though the beautiful part of the US, known as the "UP" is attached to Wisconsin, it actually belongs to Michigan...

Ah, Mike... I feel your pain (and your discontent, or 'dis continent') :D
It looks like freakin' spring here! I'm totally bummed. The only snow we've had was the weekend Bill & I danced at our competition. It's been spring-like ever since.

Here in Kitimat (from the Haisla first Nations name Kitamaat, or, People of the Snow) we're having a great winter so far. There's been snow on the ground since before Halloween, which beats last year when I had to take my snowshoes for a walk in the forest one day just to get them out of the house.

You should see it when it snows over 4 feet in a day...it's a force of nature to behold!

Eastern Canada - ugh.

Quit my job on the spot yesterday (nothing like burning bridges!), and am thinking about all the untouched backcountry powder I'll be riding. Move to BC!

What discontent?

I know all of you think that it rains incessantly here in Seattle and we do get our share in the winter. But it also provides some fantastic light where ferns in the deep forest seem to glow of themselves and provides marvelous detail. The problem is you have to get out in it and be prepared to go on a photo expedition at a moments notice as the weather is quite unstable and getting more so. That said I do prefer it to roasting in a hot dry place battling dust or freezing trying to calmly press the shutter release while racked with uncontrolable shivering only to have the shutter stick because it is so cold. So we all have challenges put to us by our particular locations my problem is getting more time away from home and day job to photograph. My solution is I have taken up exploring still life.
