Northwestern beat the Iowa Hawkeyes in a wrestling dual meet for the first time in 37 years. Is this the end of civilization as we know it? Will LF cameras quit working? What is happening to our world?
Actually, I suspect a significant percentage of people inside the U.S. haven't hear of the teams either. But, I'm confident that they were wrestling in an analog manner, so I wouldn't expect any major shifts in the laws of physics.
My LF gear stopped working only for a short time when the lenses tried to organize a labor union.
Any time Northwestern beats another Big 10 school at anything competitive (other than perhaps the debating team, or chess) I'd have to say that it probably is the end of civilization as we know it.
Hmmm.... when Northwestern was founded (1850), was Chicago the Northwest? I don't think so. Maybe its original location was northwest of the center of town.
Someone call Jack Van Impe. The four horsemen are saddled up and blowing trumpets!
I hear they have the new digital trumpets though so we should all be able to follow armegedon on-line in real-time (I wonder if there will be any pop-ups).
The good news is that the deardorff is still ticking. The Kodak 2D on the other hand is spinning wildly on the tripod and spewing pea-soup faster than Linda Blair on the Tilt-O-Whirl after a tequila and cough syrup bender.
Whats wrestling? Wrestling is when two big guys hopped up on steroids scream at each other for 10 minuts, then do some bad acting, and hit each other with chairs until one of them fakes that they are seriously injured and unconscience.
As a former Iowegian now moved to Australia one can only shrug their shoulders at an Iowa defeat (I think the place has been defeated for 150 years or better). "It's not your fault if you're born in Iowa, but it is your fault if you die there." Besides, it's hard to find good pictures in Iowa.
Isn't Iowa the team Dan Gable coached? I've never wrestled, but if this is the team I'm thinking of, then anybody beating Iowa is a sign of things changing. However, I was always too busy playing basketball to know much about wrestling...

You obviously didn't belong here David & it sounds like we're better off without you. Our IQ is low enough as it is, right?
It's not hard at all to find good photos here, you just have to open your eyes.
You're right Troy, Dan Gable did coach the Hawkeyes, as well as an olympic wrestling team or two. They haven't been the same since he left. I'm not really a wrestling fan, but can't get enough of Hawkeye football.
Not for me. I couldn't begin to get digital that I'd be happy with for five large -- but I could set myself up with a nice 8x10 and at least 2-3 lenses, plus the darkroom setup I'd need (at least for contact prints) and still have money left over to buy film and paper...
Here is some real wrestling. Turkish Oil Wrestling. None of that Wimpy college stuff. What the article does not say is these guy put their hands down each other's pants for a better hold But I would not laugh at them for it.

Its worse than it appears---my 4x5 Anny Speed Graphic DID stop working!
BTW, I took a look at the turkish oil wrestling site---its no wonder(as a Hungarian colleague once told me) the Euros fought off the Ottoman invasion down to the last Hungarian!
When I was in college I once had a date with an oil wrestler. She looked nothing like the ones in Turkey. Nice skin from all that baby oil! Unfortunately her boyfriend was a Marine! In fact, thats how I got my war related injury---her boyfriend came home from the war unexpectedly on leave! (drum roll! cymbal!)
Thank you, Thank you! You've been a wonderful audience!
That sounds like a great idea to me. Especially the beer part.
Have you ever driven the back way from Alice Springs to Watarrka National Park? It is mostly a 4x4 road through aborigine land; you need a permit that you can get in Alice Springs. I've been on the public portion, up to the Finke River/Ormiston Gorge area. It's quite a beautiful place.
