It would be pretty good I guess...what you say?

Personally, I disagree. I don't like the fact that everything nowadays ought to look like a social network.

I certainly hope not! Like what? Dislike what?

I personally like the post about mechanical SLR cameras, certain development methods, printing techniques and so on...Okay, I agree Dislike do not make sense.

vBulletin software does offer a topic rating feature, but its not active.Personally I don't think its necessary as good topics have a lot of posts.

If Sean puts in a Like/Dislike button for the Like/Dislike button I will click Dislike.

The new version of our search engine optimization tool has the functionality. It is implemented on DPUG but the links are "Like | Share" but I am unsure it is a good fit for APUG. The benefits of it are that when content is "liked" you can then go to various views to see all of the most liked content on the site. In a list of threads if you see "75 likes" next to the thread title you know it must be good. Some might find that useful. Individuals also end up with counts of how many likes they have received, maybe this encourages better posts not sure. The share option allows for instant sharing of APUG content to social networks. This is what it looks like on DPUG (it is somewhat non-invasive):

There are also "like trees" that show most liked content throughout the site. I have not shown any screens of that.

But, like some say, myself included... I am getting a bit burned out on the whole social networking thing. If people really want this we could probably have it available as an option that you activate, but not on by default.

Sometimes I like the entire thread(esp., threads under printing or developing section) and other times I like the individual comments. If my liking are listed under my profile it will be very helpful for me to share with someone or to read it by myself.

Just my thoughts...

I like the fact that "like/dislike" may not get implemented in APUG.

For keeping track of threads that have particular information you may want to refer back to the subscribe to thread works pretty well.

Among the many things I like about APUG is freedom from these goofy, mechanical, herd management/data generating features. Please don't think implementing it will enhance the "experience" on APUG.

After re-reading the title of the thread I think that a Disklike button would be very unoriginal.

I'd like to avoid the "like/dislike" mentality that comes with the "like" button. We've avoided rating systems until now, and I think that's been good for the health of the forum.

I'd like to dislike this thread. I tend to follow certain people here as well as subscribing to particular threads. I have a FB account but spend 99% of my computer time here because it ISN'T like FB, Myspace or twitter.

Please keep it as is, although we are all analog'ers and this site is by virtue a digital communication medium, not adding bells/whistles such as 'like/dislike' more represent the spirit of how I believe we communicate here, more round table, everyone contribute, pot luck per se. Adding a 'like/dislike' would make this feel like something else and I would hate for someone's thread of some obscure alt process be 'unliked' by the masses because of the anonymity and passive engagement that 'like/dislike' promote.

How 'bout a Yelp-like: useful, funny, or annoying?

I don't think a like/dislike feature has any place on this site. In the context of fb, the like button allows people to maintain a "social" relationship with a single click. I've never seen a successful implementation of a similar feature on a forum like this--it's either ignored or it creates trouble. A dislike feature is just mean-spirited.

I absolutely dislike like/dislike Buttons and the mentality behind it.

Please don't.

This place is about film and analog shooting. Anything else is a step away from film and analog shooting.
