I just discovered that I have a Full Frame negative carrier that came w/a Valoy 2 I bought yrs ago--I'm hoping it'll work on my 1c (which is in storage). Thanks!

I just discovered that my 1c carrier is "Full Frame" also-24mm x 36mm. I don't know why Full Frame carriers for Leitz are advertised--they must ALL be FF.

Yes, it will !

And about your second question: Leitz negative carriers give a litle more than the actual image. If you want you can include the negative borders. I think the term full frame is now used so much because of digital.

Don't forget to try out your Valoy II, they're wonderful enlargers !

Veloy II and Focomat Ic share many common parts -- the neg carrier and condenser in particular. Both great enlargers.

As to the negative carrier being "full frame," it is on some instances, but not all -- when I print negs shot with my SLR, for example, I can usually leave a black rim around the image pretty easily.

When printing negs shot with my M rangefinder, however, I can if the neg was shot with a 50 mm lens or longer, but shorter lenses do not -- the image is actually larger. This is because leica rangefinder lenses -- especially older ones -- are really the physical distance from the focal plane that the lens says -- so it is close to the film, meaning the image, to fill the frame, must project out at a sharper angle from the central axis of the lens.

The most extreme is my 21mm super angulon -- its rear element is only a couple of mm from the film, and its image projects out to far that, on the developed film, there is no separation between the negatives, which means when I print I am cropping off a bit all around just because it is too big for the negative carrier's hole.

Very interesting, summicron1. I have a Contax G 21mm that is probaly even closer to the film than your super angulon is, the Contax bodies being thinner. But I still have space between my negs.

You should put the lens on and put the camera on B and look from the back and see -- this SA was made in the 1950s, pretty old formula, yours is probably newer by a cupla three decades. I've had people tell me there was something wrong with my camera because this lens leaves no space between the negatives -- i just say "No, that's the lens."

Good performer for all that.

I had a 1967 SA that I only shot slides with, so I don't know how the negative spacing was. Read Ken Rockwell's review of the Contax 21!

Respectfully, to me this is only half correct. True for the negative carrier, but not for the condenser - the condensers of Focomat Ic and Valoy II are different from each other and cannot be switched between them.

The Ic condenser you take out (to clean) from above after removing a black ring and a spring. The Valoy II condenser you can take out from below, by pushing it upwards and turning it. It has a bayonet and will drop down after turning . . .

A suggestion for anyone starting with either one of these wonderful enlargers: do clean the condensers first. There can be a fine layer of dust on the top of the glass, hardly visible. I take them out of the enlarger, wash them in not too warm water with a bit of dish washing soap, rinse them well and dry them with a clean soft cloth . . .

I have found the holes in the Leica carriers to be all over the place, not just the holes, but the thickness as well. I always seem to have to file some out to make mine truly 'full-frame', at least enough to not drive me crazy trying to center the negative just right...I have found that once you adjust a lc for auto-focus, not to change negative carriers. The thickness does differ...

You are welcome ! If you are missing anything, or want to replace something broken: I have many parts that just sit in boxes . . . the red filter is important, as it is easily modified to a filter holder for under the lens . . (this one I do not have extra).
