Has anyone installed the APUG Widget yet? I did and it works flawlessly on my Windows XP Pro system. These are very helpful and fun to use. Let me know which other ones you install and use.

Thanks for the followup Curt. I wasn't aware this could be used on a Windows machine.

As I mentioned, I have something similar on my Windows Vista machine - it has a built in RSS Gadget (that can be either dropped on the desktop or used on the sidebar).

i have a digg.com widget, dictionary/thesaurus, mini weather widget, a cpu and ram usage widget and a clock, oh and a conversion widget that does everything from weight to money..

People, the Widget is a floating-diving fishing lure made by the Heddon Company of Dowagiac, Michigan. I've had a fly rod size Widget for nearly 50 years. I believe that Heddon (or their successor) owns the name.

Dear Dan,

I don't think so. According to the OED the word first appeared in 1931 and it was used in its normal current sense in economics by 1937. Most of us have never heard of the fishing usage (it's not in the OED) and I certainly don't believe they originated it. But I could be wrong.

Addendum: a quick Google indicates that the Widget fishing lure was introduced in 1952.

Cheers,

R.
