Wide LTM lens for Canon 7s

Just got a Canon 7sz and am researching lenses. The camera has a 35mm (as well as 50, 85/100 and 135) setting and I’m trying to decide between voigtlanders 28 or 35 color skopar or some like lens. Silly question, but the 35 setting should work fine for a 28mm lens, no?

The 35 Color Skopar is a nice lens. I've had one on my Canon rangefinders for a few years now.

You could shoot the 28 using the 35mm frame lines. Use the framelines to ensure the critical parts of the scene are captured (ie they appear within the framelines with less important elements falling outside). I did this with a 15mm lens and it worked well enough for my needs. But, since the 7sz has a flash shoe, you could also use a dedicated 28mm finder.

I personally would not use a 28 without a dedicated finder except in a pinch, like if I lost it. The 35 mm frame lines in the 7 don't have so much space around them, estimating the coverage will be difficult. What works slightly better IMHO is using the 85 mm (I think) frame lines as a approximation of the thirds in the 28mm frame. So either budget for a 28 mm finder - the Voigtländer plastic ones are not bad and show up a reasonable prices sometimes, also labeled as Ricoh (for the GR) - or use a 35 mm lens. Of course, if you use an external finder anyway, you could also go wider right away. I, for one, like 28 mm though.

I had both a 28 and 35 the 28 a canon the 35 a Leica, I seldom used the 28 as I did not like having to switch from the camera viewfinder for focus to the external for framing and making sure it was set the proper setting for distance.

Brian its such a personal thing. I love the 35mm focal length, but i have no issue using an auxilliary finder. They work like a charm for framing and in the right light, with zone focus pre-set the 28mm makes a fine point & shoot

It was sold as perfect / no haze / no fungus and it had haze. I’ve only ever had two lenses in my possession and they both had haze, the most recent was the better of the two.

With all the countless ‘haze’ issues with the f1.7 I’m going to steer clear and maybe get a Canon 35mm f1.8 or f2
