This past august I shot 110 rolls of film. Was on a beautiful trip.

I could have used any apo/asph/expensive lens. The kind that even collectors are jealous about owning.

But no.

I used a Rolleiflex 2.8E2 Schneider

Leica IIIg + hektor 28mm

Leica IId + 5cm nickel elmar.

Why you think?

Because my images need a LAYER OF SOUL.

And Soul lives between the grain, that very place that cannot be reached by the cold asph and apo devices.

Soul lives in your head and in the viewer's head. It has nothing to do with gear. And taking pictures with screw mount Leicas is certainly an enjoyable experience but I doubt it bring any added value to images.

¡Damnorino! I opened this Koudelka book and Soul hit me all over my face.

The grays and blacks and grain and unsharpness and anything that came out of that 60’s camera, and lens, and film.

It smashed my heart as well.

Yeah.

You can get all the soul you want by missing focus with an APO lens. Even more soul if you mess up the exposure.
The absolute way to get soul? Use a lomo type camera.

But then again, it is hard to brag about using a Fuji Quicksnap.

The Fuji Quicksnap is just one blog post away from being the most sought after camera for capturing soul. Actually, any camera is just one blog post away from being the most sought after camera for capturing soul.

I have captured more soul in this one pic taken with a lens made from a discarded Fuji Quicksnap than anything with 'hey I shoot old Leicas look at me!' stuff.

And I didn't even have to use B&W film!

Just look at that soul..
Oh wayt, I thought NB meant sole..

You know what is definitely the greatest thing to capture soul? Whatever I happen to be selling at that moment. Note to self, add that to your subject by line.

Come on now, don’t be funny.

A blurry image being acceptable?
A fuji plastic being acceptable?

Please show some knowledge, guys.

Let’s not be clowns and make a circus out of this place.

Recommending “out of focus, BLURRY images made with a APO lens as a proper substitute for a non-apo lens” is ridiculous.

Especially since apo means nothing in the current market except a marketing slang.

Exactly ALL lenses (or none at all) are apo. A lens just cannot be semi-apo and that’s what they all are: semi-apo, including vintage lenses.

And the term “asph” is absolutely and totally wrongfully mistaken as being a synonym for sharpness. No, “asph” or “aspheric” does not mean “sharp” nor “sharpness”. It’s just refers to a form, which simplifies lens calcultions.

What’s with the color casts all over the place?

I’ve rarely seen this happen except when I forgot to take off the UV-IR Cut filter when shooting film.. which all end up in the garbage.

No, such color cast is not my idea of art.

Someone has to have a photo of a circus clown at hand for posting here!

Apparently you don't approve of sole/soul unless it is taken with 'hey look at me!' stuff.
Sad.

Inanimate objects do not have soul. But inanimate objects can have sole.

I got a picture of topless men pulling a giant set of boobs. I think that counts.
This was taken with an M3 and Summicron DR - nothing more soley/souly than that get up!
Plus check out that kid figuring things out....

Looks like a campaign for 'topless rights' (also known as 'top-free equality'), which is a thing people march for according to teh Googlez. Whether these giant boobs- and the inflatable breasts- are effective, empowering messengers is for everyone to decide for themselves.

It indeed was a campaign/march. Consisting of two topless men and strangely no women.

Show us the results, or rather a selection of the best. I want to know what a layer of soul looks like. Sounds kinda fishy.

I’m not good enough to show off my stuff.

But as I already pointed out, why show my stuff when going through a Koudelka book does the trick?
