Why you should be shooting film

I lost interest less than minute into it at about the seventh time he said "shooting film".

Just another hipster doing what hipsters do.

He doesn't seem like a fad-chasing hipster to me. Just a young fellow who is passionate about film photography. A hipster doesn't invest the time and money to set up a film processing business as he has done. To real hipsters, whatever interests they choose will always have a superficial quality.

Flickr announce non-Pro users to be limited to 1000 shots. Otherwise it's $49.99 a year. I wondered how long it would be before Flickr monetised the archive. "After February 5, 2019, free accounts that contain over 1,000 photos or videos will have content actively deleted -- starting from oldest to newest date uploaded -- to meet the new limit."

Why one should be shooting Film? Because of financial comparison between film and digital.
With digital it allways ended worst.

Example : if you'll spend 48k you'll get 150mp served via Phase one at this time.

If you'll use 120 film you can get nearly the same resolution. If that isn't enough to you , you may proceed on 4x5 that looks like expensive but it isn't (much cheaper than 48k).

Coming to storage : One failed tipping (that delete task) and you may have lost thousand photograps. (Forget all the back up strategy - on the long run it will not help).
With film it is more expensive in comparison because you first have to burn your house - to cause the lost of thousand negatives.

Aha I see "hipster" yes there is some more disadvantage with digital, imagine :

If you may affort to spend 48k it is disillusioning. You may feel like the master of the universe while that 48k bolide is around your neck.
But all others are thinking : " LOOK there - big daddy is coming"

If you just will spent 100bucks for this here :

You ARE the hipster master of all universes (including parallel worlds).

So it is from financial issue real smart to avoid digital and shot film.

I used to dump on hipsters. Then I read a definition of 'hipster' in urban dictionary that described me. Anyway, my adult grandchildren don't find me an embarrassment, so that's nice.
I like film capture because it gives me more options for printing, at least with what I'm doing now.

As I understand it hipsters are into vinyl, real ale, tweed, beards and film. Most of those were prematurely abandoned for improvements that benefited commercial interests and fashion, but reduced the quality of life generally. As an oldie, hipsters I salute you!
