hardly a "snobnescenti", whatever the heck that is, although I applaud you on your colorful use of diction. I'd have made the
same post if it had been an FM2 etc. It's about the posey fakery of it that I find pretty retarded...the guy easily shaved $300-400
dollars off the value. Will I take advantage...well, shoot, maybe I will...

Snap-on wrenches are tools too (very expensive ones)...but you won't see mechanics treating them like that.

The big difference, in this case, is mechanics (especially if they make a living with their "Snap-On wrenches) respect their tools and try to take care of them. All "Craftsmen" do. I have seen Leicas that looked like this but looked that way due to honest toil and whose owners would send them in now and then to be recovered and repainted because they, too respected what they used to make a living with. In this case, if I had the money, I would have the Leica repainted/recovered to look like new (the insides are likely in new condition due to lack of use) and keep it until it wore out (from use) or I did.....Regards!

If I want to be a Leica "snobnescenti" (I like that word and I hope it applies to me) and if I want to be one, that is my business and anyone who doesn't like it can flat go live in the place of eternal fire if there is such a place. I am sure we have all met people who are "snobs" about the fact they don't have as much money as someone else.....Regards!

If the internet is any measure, most film Leicas are owned by Japanese people under 25 years of age. A beater with history can be a beautiful thing, especially if it comes with the right provenance, but artificially distressed Leicas are as dumb as pre-torn jeans, and much more expensive.

The motive is to avoid making the owner look like wannabe with too much disposable income. Instead it confirms that opinion and adds a comedy factor.

will take photos just like a non-"aged" model...jeez

i saw one the other day which was a 8x10 view camera ( i think a deardorf ) with a portrait lens.
the seller said " real working camera, real lens ! "

This is a rising trend in guitars, too. Even the most artfully aged ones where you really can't tell the difference miss the spirit of a battered, well used instrument. In my opinion...

I try keeping my guitars mint but they get proper wrecked. Wonder if that means it is worth extra...

CDM, I didn't say you were a snobnescenti (I made that word up I am gifted like that) I am not fond of the Leica fondlers who think rare Leicas make them superior photographers. I find that ludicrous. I say if someone is looking down their nose at your Leica, shove it straight up said nose.

And snag the camera on the cheap. If someone is stupid enough to think rubbing sandpaper on their camera gives them status amongst the Leicaknobs then they are too stupid to need the extra cash.

I've taken sandpaper to gear to end up with a result similar to the camera in the first post in the past. The finish had gotten to a point that it was flaking off in small chunks, and I was getting tired of dealing with the random black specks, so I got a wire brush and some sandpaper and got rid of all the finish that looked remotely close to peeling.

I will admit that I had planned to refinish stuff... But honestly it still worked just as well as it did before, or technically better because it no longer left random spots on stuff after use, and if it isn't broken, then why try and fix it?

I sure won't deliberately add wear marks to something (With the exception of making props) but I won't turn my nose up at gear that someone else did it to if it is still in perfectly fine functioning shape. I rather doubt that I can find a single piece of camera gear that I own at this time that doesn't have at least some small sign of dings or scratches from use. I would prefer gear that is in good shape, and will take effort to fix things that need it, I'm not going to worry too much about how something looks if it doesn't have a negative impact on function. My C330 is rather worn on all the edges, all the knobs have scratches and dings, and there is a small dent on one corner that doesn't appear to impact the light sealing, and I honestly don't care about any of them because it is still a pleasure to use.

Alas I don't see a problem with customising eg like replacing the covering with crocodile skin apart from being hard on crocs.

I don't know, they could just be a rough user or whatnot. I don't really think it matters what the body of the camera looks like as long as it functions properly, all that really matters is how well the images come out. The camera body is irrelevant unless you're just a collector or someone who wears their camera as jewelry but can't produce with it. Just my perspective, I would love to own an M6-TTL, but they are too expensive, I would love someone to beat the crap out of the body so that I could buy it at a discount

There was a recent ad on RFF in that the seller had one in otherwise very clean condition in which the internal meter did not work and would require a complete PCB board replacement. He was asking $650 and it disappeared in a day. Had I not already owned mine, I would have snatched that up in a split second because I don't even use the internal meter in my M6TTL, find the LED's too distracting so I took the batteries out.

It's nice to have the option. I like having a TTL meter because I grew up on a Canon AE-1 and I basically "spot meter" my scenes which is harder to do with a RF and parallax-style meter.

To each their own. And again, I don't really have that kind of money to blow, but it would be a nice option to have as a carry around. Eh, maybe someday as a gift to myself when I make tenure or something
