Hi, I've owned an Olympus Stylus Zoom for a few months now and have never had an issue. Recently, the battery died, but when I replaced the battery it won't turn back on again. When I try to slide the viewport open to turn it on, the shutter opens like it's going to turn on normally, but then immediately retracts. Also, the flash won't pop back down into place no matter what I try.

Does anyone have any suggestions for what I should do about this?

Dont know of anyone who works on point and shoots, unless you can find some to repair it, get another. I have a box of point and shoots, the box gets lighter and lighter as they die of natural causes.

Check your battery voltage; sounds like a weak battery. Also, clean battery contacts with pencil eraser as the dead battery can sometimes weep invisible chemicals on contacts that create high resistance for battery voltage.

^ Agree that battery being low (or dirty contacts prevent good transmission of electricity via excessive resistivity), can cause camera to 'shut off'.

Are you sure your previous battery died? If you had an electronics failure, it might seem the battery died and the new battery wouldn't solve the problem.

Agree with the previous posters about checking the new battery.
You should also see the led display come to life when you slide open the front of the camera.
Does the display "light up" and show a battery full/low icon?
If the camera is shutting down quickly you may need to be fast looking at the display.

Ah. The flash is always up? Then the little arm at the end of the flash inside the camera has broken off. Sorry, but the only solution would be to replace the front cover assembly, which has the flash arm built into it.

Hi, I have the exact same issue. Did anyone ever figure out what was wrong and how to fix it? Thanks so much!
