Nikkor? Nikon's name was originally Nikon Kogaku K.K. I believe that this means Japan Optical Inc. Anyway, that's what Nikkor is derived from.

Nippon Kogaku (日本光学). The characters can also be read as Nihon Kogaku; the meaning is the same.

Wollensak made a lens they called Raptar....

The Raptar name came about from a 'naming contest', post WWII...The lenses were previously named Velostigmat.

Wollensak really missed the boat...they should have made some transitional lenses called "VelosiRaptars"..🤓🙃

Quite a few businesses like it; apparently, it makes a name more memorable:Kinko's, K-Mart, and others!

Well K-Mart named after the founder Sebastien Spering Kresge the founder. Walmart is the same, it's named after Sam Waltonl

So, it could have been S-Mart. Or Smart.

Don't argue with Ralph about the popularity of K - he apparently lives there:

Some names are obvious in depicting their design, like Triotar, Trioplan, Trinar, etc. Others like Dagor are derived from their original markings.
