Yesterday I went to Samys to pick up one of two Heliopan filters that I ordered six weeks ago. The sales people told me that it is harder to get filters in because many filters are back ordered and they have to wait for batches of new filters to be made. Why? They said that manufacturers have told them that the darkside users do not buy filters, they correct the exposure in post processing!

It's far more likely that the store only places orders when they have sufficient demand to either get a discount or free carriage.

Also, some camera shops carry mostly digital related stuff. Try ordering from Calumet or Freestyle, or B&H.

Samy's are better than most. Or used to be, and I hope they've not changed.

No they have not changed. They try to keep a good stock of Hasselblad filters on hand, but they run out of stock regularly because B+W, Heliopan, Hasselblad and others keep getting in backordered status.

When I orders two skylight filters, they ordered ten. So far, after six weeks only one came in.

I order direct from Germany:

On many occasions I ahve been lucky and the dealer has had the items in stock, but delays of up to 4 weeks are not unknown.

David
