I like Stephanie's idea of her pictoral focused magazine. I am going to take a cue here to do a minor plug.

This is her vision.

My vision for Creative Image Maker is to have a lot more on the technical side, which is kind of what I have a shortage of now. A lot of people want to have their portfolios done and I have received some VERY FINE work for the magazine. I would not wish in any fashion to completely relinquish pictoral portfolios. But I would like to DRASTICALLY increase my technical content.

So, that being said, if you would like to compose a technical article with or sans illustrative images, please consider sending them to CiM.

If I get an overflow of photography (portfolios) and such, I may suggest them be resubmitted here to 'Fractured Light', once it is more or less up and running. I would love to see Stephanie's idea blossom because I know the satisfaction that I have in seeing an idea (even if it was David's to begin with) come to fruition. It is very rewarding and I anticipate that Stephanie will get a lot of warm and fuzzies as a result of her work.

Stephanie, if you think this plug forward, I will delete it. But I think that this might clarify things for folks between your proposed publication and ours.

No, that's good. Plugs are good. Hell, I'll plug Creative Image Maker on the site when I get it done. You guys are doing awesome work. I just hope that we can do awesome work with this as well.

Now I'm curious about one thing that is the distribution of the magazine to libraries and schools. How do new pubilications break into those markets? Does anyone know?

Well, people talk to people. When it gets to a point, if it is worth being out there, it will be there.

David spoke with a publisher about a work publication for a while one day a couple of weeks ago. Then wrapped it up by speaking with them about CiM. Now, we're not ready to go like that yet or anytime soon. But We are getting an idea about pricing and such so that if and when it does happen, say a couple of years down the road, well, we'll just have to wait and see.

But things can and do happen. I figure anyone in a venture such as this needs to take baby steps. Get your feet on the ground. Get moving around a little. Get your balance. Then see where you can go. CiM is in the get moving around a little phase. So we'll see where it goes from here.

Libraries have acquisition librarians whose job is to decide on new things to buy, and large libraries may have one just for magazines. (I worked in serials cataloging once at a big university library--this can also include newspapers, academic journals and monographs, and that sort of thing. We got new stuff in every day.) You can promote yourself directly to them or advertise in library trade journals. There are subscription services and distributors that specialize in serving that market. If patrons make requests or they see a good review, that makes them more likely to want to buy.

Hi Stephanie,

I'm guessing that your head is spinning with all the possibilities - mine was back in Dec '07 when I decided on making Creative Image Maker! This is great - but (and I hope I'm not too late here really) I wondered if we could somehow work together? Between our technical articles and your pictorial images we could really produce something of interest to the community.

Either way, I know that I've only been doing this for just over a year, but feel free to PM me, or email me, if I can be of any assistance to you.

Best wishes,
David Vickers.

By working together I think you would have a more viable project. At the news stand we have B&W (US) and B&W(UK) not much else.

Well I've certainly noticed the difference since Chris and I started working together, it's much more exciting working this way and we've really started to move things forward - I would have found it overwhelming to do on my own! It's also great to have someone to bounce ideas off of as well.

So whether Stephanie wants to join forces as it were, or just wants a helping hand, the offer is there.

It would be great to see a bigger, more viable project that reaches areas of the community that other magazines don't!

I see. Thanks for the reply. So, if the magazine gets on the loop it will possibly seen widely and perhaps archived better in a long run as a public record, right?

Related to that, Creative Image Maker has been registered and has an ISSN number. This means that I have to send the British Library a copy of each magazine to be kept as an archive.
