This is a good analysis you gave me, thanks, is good to understand that. I had no idea, that such a small 35mm MP cameras exist. But don't defend Kodak, it is a paralyzed giant. Kodak started to make strategic mistakes 30 years ago, too big, to see, what's going on. It is a big business with a lot of investors whom they own profit. If there will be no profit the company will close in a heartbeat. Don't make any mistakes, I am a guy who uses Kodak materials exclusively, Tmax, TX and Double X is my everyday bread. I hate to think, they may stop production.Timor I feel I have to defend Kodak Orwo meaning Filmotec makes the 100ft rolls for amateurs and the like who use 35mm MP cameras Like the Zeiss Ikon Kinamo or the internal load of a B&H Eyemo the still film business is a small side market. You can get special orders from Kodak or buy prespooled Kodak Film (MP-Stock) from some other places. Kodaks MP Division is set up for the pro market not the amateur market. Orwo on the other hand is quite the opposite it is more amateur oriented than pro oriented. Just look up perforations and Orwo/Filmotec for years they did not make the correct perforations for 16mm film and 35mm film (Kodak as opposed to B&H) they just kept producing to the old GDR/USSR Standard (The Sowjet system used the Kodak standard for print and shooting stock, the West the B&H Standard for shooting and Kodak for printing) resulting in film jams and sometimes camera repairs (the first happened quiet often). Arri advised against the use of Orwo film this should tell you something. When it works the Orwo stock is superb and in fact more modern than Kodak's B/W MP emulsions.
Found this online source for Double X in 100ft spools: Dead Link Removed and also this very weird shop http://www.labeauratoire.com/film/index.html
I mainly bulk load to get access to films that I find in 100ft or longer reels at a discount. Ilford films are still an ok deal to bulk load.
For tri x there's no better deal for fresh film than legacy premium from freestyle. They only have 24 exp rolls left but it's still a very good deal.
SP, if you are using windows you can pull up your on screen keyboard from your start panel or search bar. It will keep you going until you get a replacement.
I use the Leica cassettes, both Barnack and M. I have about twenty total. I'll never use the other reusable types if I don't have to. I'm using the Leica only for 35mm, so it shouldn't be any problem.

I would love to try ORWO stock. I never had any problems with ORWO materials in the deep past. If its overall quality equals Double X, it will be something to consider. About DXN I am with Stone. It is very flexible material for still photography, plus has additional things (coatings) which other films for still photography just don't have. Too bad it is only MP material.
Hi Laurent
Leitz made two types
IXMOO
FILCA
You need the IXMOO for any M except
CL
CLE
M5
The FILCAs won't fit they are 2.0 mm too tall. They only fit Barnacks. The IXMOO also fit Barnacks but rattle...
Noel
Thanks for sharing your experiences.Hi
Double-X is like Trix a modern emulsion but
cine perforated normally ok in still cept Hasseblad panos
thick base for durability in cine
low contrast for contact printing cine projection needs forceing for grade 2 paper
fine grain for 250ISO but cubic grain not tabular it is close to plusx... in signature
If you have a normal changing bag and 100 foot movie spool, or a bulk load spool it is easy to move 100 foot from core of 400 foot can to 100 foot spool. And drop into bulk loader.
The 100 foot spool avoids spaghetti in cbag... id not try core to core leave the 400 foot flat in half can
Im handicapped and I can do it.
I use Microphen 20C 8mins @320ISO and still get flat negs which I need for my shooting style I need to split print anyway.
very cheap new from Kodak, shot ends or recans even cheaper if you get a cine team finished shooting
If you are clumsy don't bother...
Noel
Michael,
would you know if they work on an M4? I'm ready to "roll my own" and would be very happy to have cartridges that do not scratch the film by design
On the other hand, what's your shooting style ?
confirmed
If you leave it in the bottom half of it's can and
wind the end in to a 100 foot reel like the reel was like the bobbin in a fishing reel you should be ok.
Double-X is an old emulsion (little changes since the 1950's) whereas the new Tri-X is a modern emulsion that is identical with old Tri-X in name only, so if you want to go old style than Double-X is your only option these days.
I agree the price is high considering that 400ft of the same emulsion cost 213.12 $ directly from Kodak not cheap but cheaper to get more.
Old style?
Marvelous results?
Go fomapan 100. And it's cheap, too.
like Bruce Gildens cept no flash so shoot first adjust exp after.

Fomapan 100 has a nice look, but that only ISO 50 film. Push it a bit and isn't nice anymore. DXN on the other hand could be shot at 50 or 640 and you would never know. Low contrast of this emulsion is a big advantage.
The whole subject was old style results and low price. Now if we're into pushing and all kinds of other out of subject stuff, then I'd gladly recommend Delta+ XTOL.
They also have the Alden200 which is a 200 foot bulk loader, they are fairly cheap these days, go for about as much as the 100 foot loaders ($35-$50)
Hi Stone
Sorry not clear enough the easy way to split up the 400 foot is to wind it on a spool and most people will have the normal 100 foot cine spool which as it happens will fit even the small loaders.
The spools also came with some Fuji and Agfa bulk loads.
Winding it on a normal core is more risky...
My 5222 came on a core if you remove 200 feet you should be able to drop it into a 200 foot loader.Just saying it's easier to wind only half the spool 1 time, than have to brake it up 3 times.

I don't know if you can get 200 foot reels?
It is more difficult to respool on to a core, have you tried?
It is easy to respool into a reel and you know when to stop.
Nope, I only have a dark bag, I need a clamp and a table, but I would set up a reel-to-reel with something non-sharp and just roll it...
Anyway... I'll try it when I run out of film... Still have a lot and rarely shoot 35mm
