This sounds like it could be a great outing. Since I've managed to miss the last two meet-ups I've been aware of, I'd love to come along, as long as it all fits in with the family, of course...

I'm just checking flights......

Flight dependent (I have just been given the all clear by The Lord High Executioner and Minister for Finance), the 2nd of April would work for me. Like I said, I am looking for an excuse to come to Melbourne for the weekend, but obviously will only commit if all the plans fall into place.

Cheers

It is looking like I have been given the all clear - been meaning to get over to Melb for a while for some architectural /street shooting.
Just need to confirm flights.

You fellas from Adelaide, if you desire, we have one bed with floor space in our sun room, you just need to bring a sleeping bag. First one who puts their hand up, gets the bed

I'm located 14 klm's south of the CBD, the airport is 32 klm's north of the CBD.

Richmond is 3 to 5 klm's East of the CBD.

If I can borrow the missus's car I can carry three passengers, otherwise my ute can only take one passenger, not sure what her plans are at this stage.

Mick.

Please count me in as well. Is it possible to relocate this thread to the Australia forum? I almost missed it altogether.

I will be in Melbourne from Mar26 until Apr18 and would like to meet a few of you APUGers if possible. Anybody interested?

Oh, I wouldn't mind meeting another APUGer from a far away land, and a famous author to boot! I'm interested, but not in a wander around the Botanical Gardens. Something more cerebral and engaging than a time-wasting ramble through the botanical gardens. Plenty of digs in Richmond for a latté and/or lunch, though parking is usually a pain in the brake pads.

End of March is a little vague with me: if I've departed with the rest of the mafia clan here on the around-Australia junket around then, obviously I'll miss it, but no plans set yet. Need to keep this thread visible: I happened upon it purely by chance.

Thanks for the offer Mick, but I think we are going to use this as an opportunity to stay in the city (something that I think neither of us do often)...you know, weekend away from the wife's, seedy bar's...... :D (just joking).

Cheers

Didn't you come from the country Mick? A ute can carry any number of pax: the driver, one in the middle, the passenger, 4 to 6 on the back. Go up to see the Deniliquin Ute Muster and see how the boys pack 'em in, all quite amusing, if not quite the legal deal, still, they have the blessing of the boys in blue during the muster! How many pax have you tried??

Gosh I too nearly missed this one. If work does not send me away I am in too! Like Mick I too can offer a bed to someone from Interstate/OS. But be warned I have a 5 & a 3 year old that ask heaps of questions of all the guests.

I have 2nd of April marked in as "Apug Day". Would you rather a day trip somewere out of town or a local city type thing Ralph. Im pretty sure we won't be able to supply some of those nice girls you seem to have a fondness of photographing though..

Christine excepted Mark...

Still in my plans for that day.

My son will be chasing me around the sights, I'm sure. Photography is not my main reason for visiting Australia, but I wouldn't mind getting a couple of pointers from you guys on where to go and not just end up with a few tourist snaps. For that day, however, I'm fine with staying in town, having a chat, a meal and a couple of drinks. Meeting you all will be fun with or without a camera.

My earlier plans had me anticipating joining in with this, but no, can't do. I am departing for Broken Hill tomorrow (Wednesday) so will unfortunately miss this APUG meet-n-greet. Hope your brief stay in Melbourne is a pleasant and creative one, Ralph — sorry about the weather, though. It will be 28-38 degrees where I am setting up camp.

Hi Gary, Are you staying in Broken Hill for more than a month? We are talking about 2nd APRIL here... Anyway, have fun and enjoy the summer (what's that?) temperatures. Joachim

Regarding the "a chat, a meal and a couple of drinks" part, how about "Muttis" in Carlton in honour of our German guest? They serve well-made German and Austrian food (although I noticed that my favourite "Zwiebelrostbraten" disappeared from the menu). Just an idea. Happy to see other suggestions.

I hope we can take some pictures before we finish the day with some drinks. This also would make the day more attractive to our visitors from Adelaide. I summarize some earlier ideas here which were about (industrial) architecture:
Marc suggested:
- The former Biscuit Factory/GTV9 on Bendigo St (-37.824565,145.011742)
- The Silos underneath the famous Nylex Clock (-37.829319,144.988836) - in fact there's a few interesting old industrial things around Cremorne, incl surviving remnants of the old Rosella Factory...
- Docklands: there's the not-yet-obliterated-by-development bits in South Wharf with the old Port of Melbourne control tower and other ephemera.
Peter suggested:
- Rosati's Restaurant in Flinders Lane, between Exhibition and Russell. It is an old warehouse-type building in a streetscape of similar buildings and Zagames (the owners) have put in an application to demolish it and replace it with a 9-storey office building.
Any other suggestions or opinions?

As always, I would be interested to see some prints or slides. I probably bring some 6x7 slides from last year's Kilcunda trip.

Joachim

gary, wrong month mate...

I'll be down for this, but have to play it by ear - working most saturdays for the next couple of months.

Why would I travel half around the world and eat the same food and drink the same beer I can have at home every day? No, no, no, I want to taste the local goodies! Please, no exotic stuff, though.

Can you get Pie floaters in Melbourne? (mind you, I would have trouble giving one of those to my worse enemy.....)
