OK I give up, Vinny. I cannot deduce who makes Adorama paper even after reading both your links.

What's the answer, please

Adorama Customer Service Ambassador Helen Oster has told us it is confidential, but not Ilford.

Yes they do. I like the FB VC paper, but for my type usage it doesn't work out. No 11x14 in the finish I like and that's what I use a lot. Also, I got a large quantity of 5x7 in the finish I like for test print sections only to find it doesn't match speed wise to my larger size Adorama paper of the same finish. What I'm saying is that I would get a negative all set to go at a size of 8x10 or larger and then slip a smaller sheet of 5x7 in the easel to get a real good starting point for contrast etc.. This works with Ilford since their 5x7 is the exact same paper as all the other larger sizes, but not with Adorama. Still, there is nothing wrong with the paper itself. I like it, but it just doesn't make life easy for me and is not worth the hassle. Oh, Helen is a "peach" of a person and tries to be very helpful too.

I don't know where the paper is made but the results certainly look different than Ilford! (that's not a good or bad thing..it just is)

If you like warm-tone then try the semi-matt finish (listed as matt finish, but a nice soft luster instead). It's on a bright white fiber base, and when you selenium tone you can get a terrific split, warm red in the shadows and cooler in the highlights. It's great stuff.

That's interesting; it might be just FB sizes. I use their RC VC pearl for paper negatives and the speed matches well in 5x7, 8x10 and 11x14 sizes. The reason I know is that for WPPD a couple weeks ago, I pre-flashed my paper using a different lens, and realized that my 5x7, 8x10 and 11x14 paper were different ages, so I ran a test strip for each. 10 to 50 seconds in 1 second intervals, and the results were remarkably consistent. My takeaway was that I don't need to worry much about how old the paper is, it didn't even occur to me that they might be different because of the size!

It is likely Harmont rather than Ilford, my understanding is that Ilford branded products not sold under 3rd party names. Only a guess but same paper as sold by B&H, Photowearhouse and in the past by Promaster.

It is HARMAN.
And Harman is Ilford and Ilford is Harman.
Now, go and find out why it is called Harman.
A tip: it is the name of a person.

Harman and Ilford are both brands owned by Harman along with Kentmeyer (Sp?) but the emulsions and products branded Ilford are not sold under 3rd names, or at least were not, new owners may have changed. The Harmon film and paper that I have used seem to me fine products, but are not an exact match for Ilford films and papers.

Harmon is a US brewery chain, somewhat un-connected to photo paper . . .

Kentmere was another independent UK photo-materials manufacturer which had economic problems somewhat later than Ilford. The management buyout of the UK Ilford operation (Harman Technologies) then also bought/rescued Kentmere, as they had several unique products. Kentmere is now a differentiated brand for a range of different materials produced at the Harman site.

The operation in UK often called "Ilford" is more correctly Harman Technology trading as Ilford-Photo, and the rump of the old Ilford (which collapsed more than a decade ago, resulting in the management buyout), in Switzerland, ceased trading last year after several owners over the years.

Adox own/lease some of the original Ilford coating machinery, leftover onsite in Switzerland.

Which Harman films and papers are not an exact match for Ilford films and papers and in what way do they differ?

Thanks

I got an 8x10 box and first thing I noticed is that in the datasheet, it has the same filteration for color heads as Ilford, same exact numbers. If they are different emulsions shouldn't they be different even slightly? I know that Oriental is different

Harmont or Kentmeyer 100 and 400 seems to have more gain than Ilford and the development times are different from .PF4 or HP5. I print with filters don't know about the recommended color head filtration, but the tones seem different. Again with the change in ownership don't if Harmont is rebranding Ilford branded emulsions or not.
