I dropped my Nikkormat, and now the light meter (which was starting to get intermittent) is dead. I suspect the resistor element broke. Does anyone have a referral for a good repairman?

Thanks!

Nothing local to your area, but I've been pretty happy with Northwest Camera Repair in Everett, WA. Realize, though, that the repair cost is going to be much more than what a replacement FT series or EL series Nikkormat/Nikomat body is going to cost you. My FT2 cost me $158, plus tax to be overhauled. Since it is a bit of an oddball, being a Nikomat FT2 with the J screen (microprism spot) installed at the factory and a black body, I did go ahead and get it done. Meter was erratic and the advance sometimes wound on without cocking the shutter.

Another shop that's a little closer is Advance Camera Repair in Portland, Oregon. Decent work, a little cheaper, at least, back in 2015 when I had them work on another FT2 I owned at that time. Around $140 or so.

if you dropped your Nikkormat then there are a few things that can go wrong with the meter and it is also possible that it may not even be related to the main meter itself. what I would do is replace the meter by salvaging one from a working junk. I will write an article for this soon. I hate working on Nikkormats but it has to be done!

once you opened it up, try doing an ohm test and see if your multitester will tweet or get any readings. if you hear a tweet then the meter is likely dead. if not, then something might have gotten loose because the cause is physical (drop). i am not an electronics wiz but this is the 1st thing that I would do
