Stephen Shore did some 'street' photography with an 8x10 back in the early 70's.

I might call William Eggleston a street photographer, too.

I have followed Vivian Maier's story with interest since it first broke. She really is a master of street composition. A truly remarkable find.

I studied with a few photographers that I would describe as masters of street photography, Bill Gedney, Paul McDonough, and Phil Perkis. Less well known, but excellent work, give them a google.

You are right about Bruce Gilden! Love him or hate him, no one does it quite like him, for sure. He is actually in that WNYC series of Street Shots that I linked in my previous post.

Although I like more than just up close faces in street work, I simply love Gilden's style, outlook, and his don't give a f*ck attitude!

Daido Moriyama has some beautiful stuff! I see you've mentioned him.. Definitely check him out!!! Buy his book: Life Through My Eyes. It's pretty cheap yet, a hefty book that really shows of his demeanor.. Really beautiful stuff in there!!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT!! It's got alot of street photography and some more "personal" (not strictly street) photography.

Fred Herzog.

He immigrated to Canada from Germany in the early fifties, and shot mostly Kodachrome (at a time when most street photographers were still shooting B&W). He's one of my absolute favourite photographers, and is (IMHO) sadly under-appreciated
