Unless your choice of subjects is serverely restricted either by personal preference or by your job you will need *at least* a slow speed film like Ilford Pan F+ and also a fast film like Tri-X.

For 35mm color I use Fuji Superior usually 400 and occasionally if need by 800 speed which is impressive for the speed.

For B&W also 35mm usually Delta 400.

As this was posted in the Color area, I would say I have a few favorites depending on what I am shooting...

Fuji Velvia - Landscape(Slide Film)
Kodak E100VS - Fall Colors(Slide Film)
Fuji Provia - People(Slide Film)
Fuji Reala - General Purpose(Print Film)
Fuji NPS - Weddings and such(Print Film)

For black and white, I have shot alot of Tri-x and Delta.

Dave

Color Slide - Fuji Sensia, Velvia or Kodak E100GX
Color Print - Fuji Superia or Reala
Black & White - Fuji ACROS 100 or Fuji Neopan 400

I don't shoot it much (anymore), but I've always liked Kodachrome 64...

When I do shoot 35mm color these days, it's usually one of the Fuji color negative materials (NPS, NPH).

Kodachrome. I shoot a lot of trains, and in railfan circles there is a phenomon called FHB, or Fuji Headlight Blob, where there is always a secondary image caused by the headlights of the trains. Kodachrome has the antihalation backing that doesn't form FHB.

My usual favorite B&W 35mm film is Ilford FP4+.

Velvia (the real ISO 50 version)
Tech-Pan
PanF+
Delta 400
Sensia.
Pro Elite Col 400
Scala.

Black and white: HP5, Pan F+, Delta 100 and Tri-X
Colour neg: Fuji Superia 400, Fuji Reala, Kodak High Definition and Agfa Ultra 100.
Slides: Fuji Sensia 100

That's it...otherwise what is on sale (colour neg films are often dirt cheap in the supermarkets in Denmark)

Tri X & D76, Ektachrome, Ektacolor.

Ektacolor??

Charles - is there still film available that is labelled as Ektacolor?

Just curious.

Matt

I have about 100 rolls in 120 size, so yup still ektacolor around...

LOL

Dave

B&W: Tri-X, Lucky SHD 400
Color Neg.: Kodak Ultra Color 400
Slide: Kodachrome ISO 64, Ektachrome E100g
Film for Experiments: Ilford XP2 (chromogenic B&W), Lucky SHD 400

HP5+ & FP4+ in bulk rolls.
Fuji Neopan 400
Fuji Reala
I still have about 30 rolls of Konica Pan 100 36 frame rolls. It's really a beautiful grainy traditional B&W neg film. I bought 200 rolls for $100.00 of a dealer some years ago, one of my really better moves in photography.

I forgot, I also have two bulk rolls of APX100 awaiting a spare bulk film loader.

Mick,

I got bulk loaders looking for new homes, let me know if I can help.

Dave

Dave, I have three bulk loaders at the moment, cannot envisage myself really needing another one.

Originally I used one for fast B&W, one for slow B&W, with the last reserved for 160 colour neg for weddings.

These days I shoot strictly for fun and all three are loaded with various B&W films, including at the moment, one with Ilford security film. Which I have worked out is HP5 with no markings on the rebates and a thicker base, but at $5.00 a roll for 30 metres, I'm laughing.

Thanks for thinking of me anyway.

Mick.
