Where'd all the slow-speed lf film go?

I buy 4x5 film maybe 4 times a year, but I remember seeing a lot more choices on both B&H and Freestyle.. Did Ilford ever have Pan F in sheets? I know that Kodak axed Plus-X..

Was thinking of trying the Arista APHS, developed in dilute Dektol or HC-110 for use with cyanotypes and kallitypes.

There used to be Pan-F in sheets.

There's still Efke 25 and 50, and in the medium speed films Efke 100 and FP4+ and T-max 100, and isn't there a medium speed Acros?

Yes, Acros is 100 speed. But I think it is available only in QuickLoads.

This very day I was wishing for slower film.

I'm at the beach on vacation (holiday for our friends in the UK) in North Carolina, took my CrGraphic to a nice spot on the sound where my son (Ok, ok, "We") were doing some crabbing. The sun came out as I was setting up, and when I metered (Using TMax100), it told me f22 @500! Damn! My Graphex sutter doesn't go that fast!!! Oh, what I do for a nice, dense ND filter!!

It would have been nice to have a few sheets of PanF or something even slower.

Bagged the shot and got my Minolta 35mm out, instead. A bit of a let down...

Wow! I forgot about J&C.. Any comments on the Efke 25 and 50? I've just recently gone through 100 sheets of Arista 400 film and was wanting something a bit slower.

Efke 25 & PMK

Efke 25 is a great film. It is a bit "touchy" with respect to exposure and development. I've used it in 35mm, 120mm, 4x5 and 8x10. Stunning when you do your part right. Here's my "standard" shot of chrome taken in 35mm and blown up to 5x7. For PMK use asa 12 and 7:00 at 70f. Works like a champ. tim

Slow film

You looking for slow film? Try out Polaroid Type 55. It will blow the Efke 25 away any day of the week. the Efke is way too finicky for my tastes. You can make mural and I mean mural sized photograph with Type 55 and it's easy to use. No special processing-just a pail of water out in the field. Then you take it home and fix it. Besides Polaroid is the single greatest feedback/learning tool ever invented!

T-Max 100 is Versatile

I nearly always rate T-Max 100 at 50 and at 25 if needed. Just be careful not to over develop and blow out the high lights. Use a low contrast developer to supress the density in the highlights. My negs look beautiful when handled this way and are easy to print. T-Max 100 has so little grain that I can barely see it to focus when making a 16x20 print. Never under ANY circumstances under expose TMX or TMY for that matter.

J+C sells 4x5 micro film, and it is super fine grained and very sharp, but it is touchy too. They also sell Efke 25 which is nice.
