Where to repair Nikkor that won't focus to infinity?

I have an old manual focus 85/1.4 AIS that won't quite focus to infinity. Any place I should consider sending it?

Check your focus screen's in place first, just in case it's not the lens.

I don't know where you are located but I recently had an old 24mm f2.8 readjusted for the exact same problem at Havel Camera Repair in San Antonio. Service is prompt -Waaay faster than Nikon USA - and estimates are free except for postage both ways. Their number is 210-735-7412 and they have a web site at www.havelcamera.com. They've been in business a long time and the techs tell me they have all the official Nikon jigs and fixtures for aligning and adjusting anything you send them.

Ian - focus screen is OK - all other lenses including longer fast lenses are OK. Just this one lens won't go to infinity.

Just to be sure it isn't over focusing.

With my 85 1.4 Nikkor, infinity focusing, obtained by twisting the lens clockwise with my left hand coming from behind the camera until the lens cannot turn anymore, does not work.

I need to focus slightly and I just checked my lens and noted I need to twist the lens anti-clockwise about ½ a mm for infinity focusing.

As far as I know all Nikkor Apo or ED lenses go past infinity, meaning you do need to focus at infinity. The reason apparently, is because in extreme heat or cold, the focusing can change slightly, hence the allowance. The 85 1.4 AIs Nikkor I and you have, may be built in the same manner

I'm not saying this is your problem, but after looking through my viewfinder with my (infinity) glasses on, I found I needed to focus my 85 1.4 Nikkor at infinity.

Hi Mick, Thought of that, since I had some lens in past that went past infinity, but not the issue here. Just won't get past a hundred feet or so...
