Wow. It's been a long time since anyone posted to Great Lakes. Or am I missing something? Anyway, I thought we should chatter a little bit before Photostock. Anybody else in?

I guess, life is elsewhere? . . . .. . . seems like a reasonable theory,at least to me. I do believe, YOU are not missing anything, though. As to your last question. . . . . . IDK. On a lighter note, I hope things improve from your "anticipation" point of view. On a side note, I do like your "it takes a big dog to weigh a ton". However I was/am disappointed in your last quote. older then, younger now thing. maybe you should have stated you were younger, say . . . yesterday. and now today you are older than yesterday. seems perfectly logical and yet, I can not wipe the smirk off my face when I say I am older today. I mean there is some sort of sarcasm there. maybe????. Im in the Milwaukee area with WORK up to my eyeballs, Will not be able to get away for quite some time?> say a year or so. . . . terrible life I have. ( remember : to say your bo ho ho's ) for me tonight!!!( before you go to sleep) weird right???????? who's in charge of this thing? does the ship steer itself, or do I need a co- pilot? do you really think the great lakes should be called the great lakes? what about "somewhat robust" lakes? or kinda awesome lakes? or "whatever" lakes? "Talk to hand" lakes" . feeling buggy lakes. What is chatter????? is that like. . . . . we should chat, implying a long chat, like chatter on the air waves, or chatter like the ripples on wood when sending it thru the shaper? words are so confusing. I find myself at a loss, rereading sentence after sentence "not knowing" what to make of it? rereading my notes about, i sound kinda . . . . .. stupid, however rereading the read. maybe I got it goin on? take care I hope your photo stock thing work pout for you. take care and "good shots" come your way. cheers

MFOHL.
You are right, this segment of the forum has been very quiet. I did not get a Frozen Film Shoot organizes this last winter, no gathering at Bath Ohio for a while and I have not heard from the folks at the Large Format Forum chime in here in a while.

I just registered a hotel room at Birchwood Inn for Photostock. This will be my 4th time trying to go, hope to make it this time.

Turkey hunting season here in Ohio has me sitting outside early weekend morning. Nothing like watching the sun come up and lugging an 7 pound "work out stick" in the woods and having to stop a t a deli for a turkey sandwich and coming home empty handed. This weekend I will take a small Leica with me, its quiet and small, so I may get some photos that way.

You have any interesting plans to get out and shoot soon?

I had a death in the family, then printed all my negatives of that family member for the funeral. That was almost a year ago and I still can't get in to a decent printing session since then. To keep the unprinted and unprocessed negatives from piling up I have not been shooting much either. I'm sure I'll get over it and with the coming of spring, I'm going to re-arrange my darkroom to get back in the mood. Add to that John hasn't put together an outing in some time (maybe he has done the last one?)

ic-racer - Sorry to hear about your loss.

I was really hoping that with Nate in kindergarten I'd be able to get a lot more done - more shooting, printing, everything. Maybe even get organized. (gasp) But, no. Alas, there are still loads of laundry, grocery shopping, cleaning, and all the other (stupid) time-takers. And I won't be able to make it to Photostock this year because a cousin's husband has his change of command that Friday in Texas. I made it up once ('09) and loved every bit of it. I really wish I could go again.
If anyone wants to come over to PA and shoot at Ohiopyle, give me a holler. There's lots there. Weekdays before the end of May are Nate-less, but he likes it there and is fairly good as long as he can throw stones in the water and play.

Man, I can empathize. Last year was like that for me, with two deaths in the family. I hope it gets better for you soon!!!
As a sort of custodian of family portraits, I ended up spending a lot of time in the darkroom making prints of our dearly beloved deceased family members. It wasn't exactly inspirational and I've been in a slump since.
I've been quiet here on APUG too because work and school together consumes 75-80 hours a week for me. I just can't fit it in, even though I did process some film last weekend. I'm caught up until September 2015 now. Yikes.

No Photostock here either, with classes during the summer it's impossible to break free. There's always next year, right?

I too know how a death of a family member will knock the MOJO out of your creative juices. I have not been shooting much since Dad passed. I have processed the backlog of film lately this spring. and hope to go out shooting again some more, having picked up Dad's camera and looking through it this weekend.

Bethe, what is Ohiopyle and when?

Lee

Google to the rescue, I took a look and it does look like a really nice place to do some photography, camping and steppin-out. I would really enjoy checking it out.

Hi Bethe, now I see your alter ego! Ohiopyle sounds interesting. Being from the 'Burgh, I've heard of it, but have never been there. I would probably be available late July or early August. Don't make plans around me, but I'll keep following this thread.

Hi Lee, I went down to Hocking Hills with Mat Marrash last week. Other than that, it's been mostly around Columbus. Lots of fun things in the city, for film and digital shooting. (I do all my color work in digital.)

It's funny, there has been nothing from John up in Bath. The camera club expressed a mild interest in going to the historical farm there, so maybe that's all I'll get. No definite plans.

Hope to see you in Michigan.

Go to hale farm. Bath has some amazing views and a great national park and it's a short drive from Columbus.

Yes, lots to shoot there, too.

I go to Ohiopyle often, so "conversation" me if you want my #. If anyone heads over there, I can likely be convinced to meet you and show you cool spots.

It is interesting that Bill hasn't been on to announce Photostock this year. We must all be too busy!

The ten year anniversary is this year, and registrations are open.
I think Bill is more active on other media platforms these days.

Edit: In fact, here's what Mr. Schwab has been up to:

Hocking Hills is wonderful. Wish I was more in touch, I've been going there since 1973 and have visited several locations off the tourist trails. Winter is my favorite time to visit. Cleats and spiked walking sticks and slow going brings out a timeless frozen look and the place is mostly empty everywhere.

One other thing that keeps me going back is I have had to seek medical attention 3X from falling there since '73, last time was about 11 years ago. My daughter and I were there and that magic thought came into my head again.... "this photo would look better if I were up over there". She made a good crutch to help me out of the park at off to Ohio University Hospital ER in Athens.

Emailed back and forth with John a bit while back, for his birthday I think and Dolly's mom has been in need of a lot of care and time. That is the priority right now and I can fully understand that in dealing with my father until he passed and now mom too.

Lets all photograph something this week and share it.

I didn't know there was a "Great Lakes" region for APUG - I thought they were more specific - Chicago being my "region".
Anyhow, we're all waiting to see if Spring will come - 30's/40's at night, 50's in the day. How is it in other Great Lake areas -
anyone?

Photostock should be a real treat this year with Mark Citret presenting.

I really wish I could attend. School. Five more courses until graduation...

Never been to Photostock but it sounds like people enjoy it.

What are you studying?

It's a great event, Michael. I'm getting a degree in business administration. Need something to forward my career. It's very rewarding to be a student as an adult, but it's bloody hard when you're working 50 hours a week on top of it. Doesn't leave much time for other things.

Sorry to be dark! Too many places to keep track of. I can only speak for myself and say that it has been very busy in the run up to this year's event. I finally made a (there was a url link here which no longer exists) here about this year's Photostock2016 (June 16-19) and am extending discount registration through this Sunday, May 8. Hoping you all can make it this year! It's shaping up quite nicely and I hope you'll check the post and website.

Hoping you all can make it!

Wow. Very exciting. Unfortunately, I'm not that adventuresome ... Don't need to see the hospitals!

Been doing some shooting and developing (still behind on that). Trying to figure out the 4x5 thing... Shot with Mat Marrash at OMC about a month or so ago. Posted some of the images in the Media section here. Work has been relentless. Too many hours and it's only going to get worse. Sold my Speed Graphic and should take delivery of a Rittreck View 5x7 with 4x5 back next week, nit that I'll have time to shoot with it.
