Go sign off for a while? I would like to know how I managed to offend an entire country. How do you know what I know about Australia? Sean lives in New Zealand but's he's also an American; as if he needs the qualificaton of being an American. If he's a nice guy I don't care if he is an natural born New Zealander or American or Australian. Why do you think I would be impressed that he is an American. There's no advantage there.

What is the connection between geographic knowledge and knowing where a person resides?

I have a great geographic knowledge of my city but I don't know everyone who lives here.

And only a dumb ass would assert that if a person offends another person that his entire country is also offended. Didn't your mommy teach you anything about generalizations?

This thread sure has gone strange (is there a full moon or something?). The little one was restless last night so I'm going on 4hrs sleep so that might be why I can't quite process it (seems like text has failed to convey many things in this thread). All I can say at this point is everyone should calm down, if you have any questions PM John at J&C, and go have a nice cold beer.

I contacted J&C and asked for an ETA, I was told to "stay calm"
and please don't listen to the rumors". I could care less about these little name calling sessions I JUST NEED SOME FILM! An ETA on this stuff would be nice but the immediate responce last night via email from J&C was appreciated.

Efke film is not made by by 'efke' but by Fotokemia. They don't appear to have a home page.

In the long run and in the short run....It is easier, less costly and more efficient to go through the Efke distributor in the U.S.

I think I may have bought the last box of Efke 25 in 5x7. That was close!
When John get the 6.5cm x 9cm back in stock I'll probably buy several boxes.

I really need to remember to buy several boxes each time. It's painful to run out and not be able to re-stock

I recently purchased 12 boxes of Efke 100 in 5x4 from JandC. The service is excellent and I have the product now in my freezer. I live in Australia so don't have the luxury of "local" supply via UPS or whatever to my door within my own country the next day.

LF film is very hard to get here. I've settled on Efke/Adox and couldn't be happier.

I recently ran BTZS tests on Fortepan 200 as well and while it is nowhere near 200 iso it is a very nice film in 5x4.

Living along way from any reliable film and paper suppliers I get very tired of the bleating of those that have no forward planning to secure film stock especially if their lively hood is dependant on it. You as a photographer in a turbulent market have a responsibility to keep yourself supplied.

In a roundabout way I find it mildly encouraging that John has been overwhelmed by demand. Running any growing business that carries stock is a gamble and walking the fine line of too much or too little can be an extreme challenge.

My dollar will go to those that support me. I have no loyalty to big brands because they were once big.

I mourn the loss of APX 100 but hey I love the results of Efke 100. And lets face reality anything [even paper negatives] is better than digital. I'm excited by the prospect of more character from the films like Efke, Foma and Forte. They have an old fashioned range of tonality that still spells individuality. I don't use Acros but the announcement by Fuji should also give heart to those relying on that particular product.

I'm thinking that I'm going to need to take a guess at how much film I'm going to need over the next year, add a reserve of a couple of boxes and buy it when John gets the order that's being made right now. Until now I've been buying film as I need it and it's become clear that that's not going to be possible with Efke-25. The closer we get to the "end of the years supply" the less likely getting it "just in time".

This not intended as a silght against John. I believe that he's doing his best in a rapidly changing environment in terms of supply and demand.

Just a suggestion, instead of 12 months in a single purchase calculate a 3 month need and add a small buffer. You will have good stock and it will help John forcast needs ahead.

The reason I'm thinking of getting a years supply is that John mentioned earlier in this thread that he was putting in an order for the year. I don't think you need to worry about me buying out the inventory at one shot. My problem is that I've come to like Efke film a lot and don't want to be caught short.

You don't need to worry, it is better to forecast what you need on a 3 month basis rather than a 12 month one. If you take what you need for 3 months add a buffer that will give John a better idea of how much film he is going to sell in a given month. It doesn't do his forecasting any good if you estimate say 12 boxes, and buy them all in December, but if you tell him you need 3 in the first quarter, 0 in the next, etc.. you get the idea. It will help him even out his stock.

Don't get the wrong idea

My earlier post was a lament about my own lack of planning and in no way a slight on JandC. I'm a big fan of JandC and buy from them every chance I get (like two days ago). I even got to have lunch with John last year when we were both in LA on photo related business. He's on our side and we're better off because of it.

Chiller, Thanks for the suggestions on buying in three month intervals. I was wondering about that before checking back on this thread. Good advice.

If you're concerned about throwing off a small retailer's projections by placing a bulk order, add a note to the order that says "this is my bulk order for the year; I expect to place another one like it in 12 months." I don't know if J&C has any way of tracking such comments, but you'll have at least made the information available to them.

I am a loyal J&C customer, but if he doesn't have what I need and can't give me a firm date on availability, I will get it somewhere else. Photoimpex have excellent customer service and can get it to you within a couple weeks.

tip, fotoimpex and J&C are partners. One supplies the USA area, the other the European area. Fotoimpex will refer you back to J&C if you are in the US.

As You see, I am from Slovenia. I live near Croatia. have less than 100 km to drive to there. To company which produce EFKE films. The name of this company is FOTOKEMIKA. Last time I visit them was november 2005.
The production is normal, considering the situation of film market worldwide.
The company does not have their own web site, but if anyone is interested for their email or phone numbers of contact person, should contact with me in private mail.

Where is Efke?
