I have been trying to order some more Efke 25 in 4x5 sheets for about a month now, to no avail. jandcphoto.com keeps saying they are out of stock. We get no response to our emails. This is very scary. Does anyone know if they are still there? Is Efke still making film, is jandc still going strong?

John has been posting quite regularly on here for the last two days, you might send him a Private Message, that would probably clear it up pretty quick.

I'm not an idiot. We have tried many phone calls, all we get is the sales organization that processes the jandc orders. I don't have a phone number for John, a last name or anything. After I posted I noticed he is sponsoring a conference with APUG, so I am sure they are ok, I just need some more 4x5.... and I want to know if I will be able to get the film reliably in the future. Despite other difficulties, like slow speed and reciprocity, it is better than anything else for scanning....

This sounds like a good idea... what's his username - or any other way of finding him?

If I missed your emails I apologize. We had some server problems over the holidays and a few may have been lost.

The situation is that we underestimated the huge increase in demand for this film over the last few months. Efke is in the process of making more film. We secured a small supply of remaining 4x5 from our European distributor and it's been shipped to us and will be available hopefully next week some time.

The same is true for PL100 8x10. This has shipped from efke and is in transit.

Sorry for the delays. We have ordered increased amounts this time around amounting to what we think is a years supply.

Thanks

John,

Thanks for the update.

I am sure you are more upset than I am about this. However, it would be nice if there was some advance notice on your site of availability issues.

It also sounds a little strange that you have to order a year's supply. It would seem that it would offer an opportunity for more error to have a process that happens once a year vs once a month. I don't know anything about film manufacturing but it seems less than perfect. Does this concern you?

Many of the products that are currently filling the niches in the American market are not being produced by American suppliers or American plants, so I fully understand the less than perfect reality of the current situation.

I have my own difficulties when getting my raw glass made..

Didn't mean to upset you. I am someone who has a lot of experience and is usually very thorough before I ask anything.

I find it actually very difficult to get answers around here as there are so many levels of expertise represented, and photographers are often after very different results. For instance, I would never consider using a Phenidone developer and many people are thrilled with it - because we want something different in our negatives.

I have found it difficult when people assume that becasue someone is asking a question, that they are a newbie of some sort.

Didn't mean to be rude, however. I'm chillin'. If I was annoyed at all, it was really becasue I think that the jandc sales staff should know a little more about the situation and should be able to tell me what John just offered.... I really like that film and don't want to give it up.

The film is now made to order. So to keep supply constant we have to inventory large quantities. In the past we did just what you suggested. We ordered every couple of months and the manufacturers kept it in stock. Now, you place an order and when the order is large enough they coat a master roll of film, cut it and ship it to you. So if you want to order small amounts you are at the mercy of the production schedule. By ordering a large quantity you get it produced to order. In 6 months we will have to order another years supply again. Stocking large quantities of film increases our costs but will ensure a constant supply.

Thanks and sorry for the lack of communication.

Adox and Efke is going out of business and the supplies have been presold to individuals. That's what my local camera store told me today. I guess that's why I can't get any and why it is being horded and kept for regular customers.

I guess I will have to find another film to use.

Do you seriously believe anything you hear in a camera store, or half of what you see?

J&C are the USA distributors for efke and adox. No wonder your camera store can't get them, they have to buy from J&C just like the rest of us. The camera store has a vested interested in having you buy their supplies.

ADOX AND EFKE ARE DEFINATELY NOT GOING OUT OF BUSINESS!

What???

You have confirmed this "rumour"?

If not you need to be taken out and flogged. "My local camera store" -- said!!

Give me a break. Has John at JandC posted that Efke is finished ?

Chicken Little seems to be an American character and that seems a lot like the attitude you are portraying. Is chicken little's name "Curt"?

Aggie, there it is they don't just distribute but they ARE Adox. Talk to John and you are talking to Adox.

Before I insult your heritage and character. Is that what an American is to you a cartoon character?

Sean do you still do flogging there in Australia?

-----------------------------------

Do you seriously believe anything you hear in a camera store, or half of what you see?

No Mark I don't. I have never believed anyone in a photo store; at least until I could check it out. Usually they don't know their ass from a hole in the ground, but they are absolutely certain of what they do know.

-------------------------------------

Is Chicken Little a trademarked character? If so and I'm it then I'm rich beyond all belief.

I'm going to put on some Bee Gees and enjoy the night.

Remember though, John is Adox and when he says it done; it's done. And don't believe everything you read, see, hear, or have heard of, or from or about anything in the photographic market place.

No Curt to me American's are not cartoon character's but "some" do seem to fit the persona of cartoon characters as do many people world wide.

As for your total lack of geographic knowledge, Sean is not living in Australia, he lives to the East of Australia in a place called New Zealand, a beautiful country. You have insulted two nations in one post. You may be benifited by a glance at a world map. And as a tip the stuff not marked USA floating around in the oceans, they are the countries that make up the world.

I semi say the above with tongue resting near my cheek.

You've really got a chip on your shoulder, you sign off for awhile. You've managed to offend a country you probably know nothing about. Most Australians I know, and I know a lot, are wonderful, friendly people who think nothing of going out of their way to help someone. And as Steve pointed out, Sean lives in New Zealand, not Australia; he is also American BTW, and a friendly, warmhearted guy.

I find it strange you would insult the guy who carries the product you seem to want so badly.
