This christmas I was in Viña del Mar, Chile with my family. One, day
after a trip to the beach, I discovered that one of the small release
buttons on the side of the finder had disappeared. The beach is rather
large and the button is small, so I didn't have much hope that I could
find it.

Does anybody know where I might possibly find a replacement button?

Thanks,
Thor Egil

Perhaps online auctions? It's not a bad idea to get anther body also as a backup. I have an eye-level finder on my New F1 and I'm always in search of whatever I can get to keep my system last.

By the way, is the little piece really gone? Or is it stuck inside the hole? My finder has two buttons on the side and they sometimes get stuck in their holes.

I was responding to a post in another thread about the service at Canon in Japan. They don't have any spare parts for the older cameras like the F1 series, so you cannot have them do anything about it unfortunately.

Try some third-party repair shops somewhere, which might have some parts from junk cameras and be able to work on this kind of problem.

It is definitely gone, the ring around the button is also gone. I assume it has unscrewed itself and popped out. I have called the reåpair shops I know in Norway, and set up a search on eBay in case anything should turn up.

To finish this thread, I got myself a wreck from eBay for $20. Nice camera actually, except for the smashed finder.
