I got this Gennert Compact Double Extension Montauk 5X7 last month on ebay. The seller was afraid to open it more than a crack so the pics only showed the dilapidated outside leather covering. Open it up and voila, a thing of beauty!

Not that I need more projects but here we go:

Years ago when I first got back into film photography I got a Zorki 1 off eBay for very little money. It wasn't in good shape but I liked the Industar 22 lens. Now I kind of want one again but prices have risen considerably. However, I did find a fairly rare (10k something units made) Zorki 2 on eBay, and for a lot less than what they usually go for.

It's on it's way now and, as per usual, I hope it's in as good a condition as the seller and the pictures promise:

We'll see where this goes. If I like this one well enough and there are issues I can't solve (or more likely don't have the time to), there is a very good shop in Germany that services Zorkis and FEDs.

And here is is already. Someone must have really taken care of this thing, or it's been recently cleaned inside and out because the viewfinder and rangefinder are the cleanest I've ever seen on a used camera. Thankfully the double image has really good contrast, as good as any newer rangefinder camera I've had. The Industar 22 has some specks of dust between the elements but nothing that would warant disassembly.

However, not all is perfect, while the shutter fires and speeds sound plausible, the rewind selector disengages every once in a while when advancing/cocking the shutter, letting the advance knob run free before re-engaging after a turn or so. Something is misaligned? This could be interesting, as the mechanism is one of the differences between the Zorki 1 and the Zorki 2.

Edit: I ran a test film through to see if it would slip and I think I was hasty. The film advance didn't slip. It probably just happenes without the tension of the film.

Thankfully this should only involve taking the body cover off and looking at the underside of the film advance/shutter release. Might as well check the curtains for holes, look at the speeds with the CRT monitor and clean/relube the gears then.

So, famous last words: ~~This should be fun and easy.~~

Edit: It was neither easy nor fun because I couldn't figure out how to get the body cover over the self-timer actuator and I was sweating over keeping the five paper shims in place underneath the lens mount ring.

I'm guessing this camera is film-ready.

Oh, and with the Zorki 2 you can totally break the "Golden Rule" and set the film speed without cocking the shutter.

I have a Zorki 1 in similar clean condition and like yours it has issues. Surprised what some people are wanting for these cameras now, use to be able to get them for around $50....which probably what their worth.

I had to go back and edit my post since the issue I thought it had turned out to be due to a misassumption, although I haven't tested the camera with film yet. It's very well fitted and finished.

As to what they are worth, I find it hard to generalise. My limit for this camera was around 80€, which is low given its rarity and the fact that it was a reputable seller.

Any untested Zorki 1 from a private seller via classifieds is another story, though. I wouldn't pay more than 35€ for such a camera although they are often listed for as much as 150€. You can get a fully-serviced Zorki 1 from Fedka, sovietcamerastore or eBay for around 190€ which seems cheap-ish to me, providing the service is done properly.

I got this lovely Zeiss Ikon Mess Ikonta, serviced and CLA's by @Alex Varas , last week. I haven't had a chance to run film through it yet (I've been busy), but it looks, feels and functions beautifully. I have no doubt it's going to make some nice images.

One of my YouTube / FLICKR followers sent me a Voigtlander Bessamatic in box with original Instructions in German- He said he had TWO of them . The 50mm f2.8 COLOR-SKOPAR is SHARP on initial tests ! It's GREAT when people send me things -- makes me forget all my Health Worries for a while!

Turns out I have enough spare parts to build this prototype. It's held together by tight adjustment, and it's very solid. WOW it's heavy I mean a real brute. I used Gaffer Tape from B&H cut with razor blade to specific widths, and the lens is not going anywhere and it's solidly supported at this point. Light cracks and leaks around the bellows are pretty much plugged up, so the lens appears light tight at this point. I prefer to protype with various tyoes of tape, before making (or have something made) as far as rotating this into the equipment rotation. This was fun to build. If you look in the back of "Castles in Spain" by Reinhart Wolf, you will see this same lens in use, and also set up.

1000mm F16 Rodenstock Apo-Ronar in barrel. SK Grimes is going to make front and back retaining rings to support this monster.

Rolleicord II, Model I, K3 made 1936 to 1937 with the f3.5 Zeiss Jenna Triotar 75mm lens I picked up for $40 on Ebay. Have only cleaned the dirt off, polished the lenses, put a few drops of naphtha on the counter reset button and shutter cocking lever (everything jumped to life with exercise) and just now replaced the viewing mirror. The old mirror was pretty grotty, as you can see. Now, you can actually compose images; a great improvement!

This model has the 2nd mirror for "reflex" viewing but the image is upside down and there is no provision for an open frame-type sports finder. I was unaware that this option was even available for the Rolleicord series; learn something new every day. Luckily, the 2nd mirror was in much better shape than the viewing mirror. I don't know how you could replace that 2nd mirror; it looks sealed in the hood.

I can highly recommend the Ebay seller Marty1107 for replacement TLR mirrors. They are inexpensive ($9 USD + shipping), well made and always packed well with installation instructions emailed to you after the purchase.

She's a bit beat-up, but still clicking away after almost a hundred years.

I picked up a very nice Ernemann Heag II series 1 at a flea market 2 weeks ago.
Of course, the two Goerz plate holders that came with it don't fit the camera, but I have a couple of 9x12cm and Quarter plate holders that do, including a couple of roll film adapters.

As a bonus there were 6x9cm reducers in the plate holders.

Last week was a Nikon R10 for a (relative) steal. Needs a bit of internal cleaning, but will be worth the effort. (well hopefully, apparently they're not the easiest to work on.)

This week (assuming Australia Post doesn't balls it up) will be a near mint Minolta Hi Matic 9. This *may* be a rangefinder I can learn to love.

New to me Hasselblad CFV16 Digital back by Nokton48, on Flickr

I've wanted this CFV16 Hasselblad Digital Back for over twenty years. This one came along at a decent price and now it's mine. Fat Pixels and Beautiful Colors, this is a coveted Hasselblad item. And it matches up perfectly to my 500C/M and 500 EL/M bodies. Kinda like shooting Kodachrome.

It's currently awaiting a CLA. while I temporarily use it's K1000's brothers.

I think it is ok. Once I finish my first roll of film and develop it I will be able to know.
