I picked up a beaten-to-hell Rolleiflex F which supposedly came from a lot of old cameras which belonged to 森山先生 (Moriyama sensei, known outside Japan as Daido Moriyama). It is the ugliest Rolleiflex which I have ever seen; dented, brassed, and scratched up. Surprisingly, the lens was in beautiful condition, but the shutter did not fire, and the mirror was broken. I replaced the mirror, and a broken lever inside the shutter, and now the camera is up-and-running again. I plan to do some shooting with it when I go to America on vacation next month.

Just got a Pentax MZ-S about a month ago, and a Pentax IQZoom compact, zooms from 28-160mm I believe. Very good little point-and-shoot camera. Loving the MZ-S as well!

Just ran some film through a very nice Nikon N80 that I purchased from another APUGer here. It's a wonderful camera. Easy to handle and controls are simple to operate.

Nikon N65 and N75, one of each. Too cheap to pass up on the Goodwill auction site, and both arrived looking untouched by human hands. The N65 is a QD and included the manual and warranty registration card. I just spent more on a pair of batteries for them (CR2) than I paid for both cameras, just to find out that both work perfectly.

Yea those CR2's are a pita and get pricey running the N65.
Back when I was green (i still am really  ) I had mine in the bag and it held the shutter button down just enough to spend the battery

Bummer. The cheapest CR2s I've found were $10.26 for 4 on Amazon, about what I paid for both cameras. I couldn't wait for them to come from Amazon and paid more than that for 2 at Walgreens, the only place I could find any at all. I keep looking at the battery compartment thinking there must be a way to fit some cheaper batteries into it. All it would take is fitting 6V in about the space of a AA with enough mAH to last more than a couple rolls. I'm open to suggestions.

I mostly got them to round out my collection of later Nikon film cameras (and because they were so cheap) but I'd like to run a roll of film through each on occasion. Both of them seem like pretty neat little cameras.

eBay has been good to me when it comes to the relatively wide variety of camera batteries I've purchased.

Here is a quickly located example - $8.99 for 6 batteries - I haven't purchased from this vendor, but the listing looks typical of the listings I have used in the past: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/6-CR2-CR-2-D...t=US_Single_Use_Batteries&hash=item3f226a8529

Canon AE-1 and an AE-1 Program, picked up at Trade Days at a nearby state park, with two 1.8/50 lenses, and a couple longer ones. Also included were a stack of paper, a handful of expired film (she said she'd kept it cool... we'll see), some flash brackets and flashes, a Sekonic meter (doesn't seem to work), and a bunch of other stuff. I posted a picture of the lot on a new thread. Paid $47 for it all, talked down from 70.

Latest acquisition was earlier this month. A nice clean F5 for $250. Traded three pre-AI Nikkors that I had lying around, plus a flash and some other small items for it. Got the cost down to $125+tax. Was able to keep all of my Nikon bodies, which is unusual for me. Usually wind up trading something away, then replacing it within a few weeks with an identical item (or the exact item that I traded away).

With respect to the Nikkors, they all were duplicates of what I already owned. I try to get pre-AI Nikkor lenses that can accept an AI conversion ring. The 135 I traded was a little too early to have a ring available for it. The 28 was a donor lens, sourced for the AI ring that was installed on it. Same with the 50 that I traded away.

It's been one year since my latest acquisition (F3HP). I like my F2S better, but the two cameras are functionally similar to one another, which is nice.

Today, I lost another ebay auction for a Nikkor 15/5.6. The damn thing had fungus in it, but nonetheless, I watched in horror as the bids kept inflating the price. I'm especially heartbroken because the seller was local to me and I was able to handle the lens in person. They wouldn't let me make a cash offer, though; they showed me the door instead.

Does anyone else lust after a 15mm? I might have to go the Voigtlander route.

The last camera I purchased (Nov. 2012) was an Ansco Memo 35mm 1/2-frame from about 1927. I believe it's the 3rd version with the plate behind the shutter release. A friend of mine, I recently discovered, had the D-shaped film cartridges I had been searching for for several months. I couldn't believe my luck, so, I purchased 2 of them and will soon be trying out this little beauty very soon.

A Tougodo Meisupii J. Takes non-perforated 35 mm film with backing paper. I shall try to codge up some film using ordinary 35mm stock to see how the camera goes. Clearly not a daily user!

I see that your has the nonfocusing Cinemat lens? These are very cool cameras. Leather over wood.

I have shot with mine but haven't processed the film.

Just picked up a Kodak Signet 40 off ebay. It's in wonderful condition and should be a lot of fun to shoot.

Yep, this Ansco Memo camera has an Ilex-Ansco Cinemat f6.3 lens. No focal length is listed on the lens. A U.S. Camera (April 1965) magazine article lists the focal length of the Cinemat f6.3 lens at 30mm while Brian Coe's book, "Cameras: From Daguerreotypes To Instant Pictures", lists the same lens at 40mm.

Anyway, I received your PM, Mike. Thank you!

My latest is a Hasselblad 500CM, factory marked as a 500C body that I picked up on fleabay for 35 clams. The upper back door didn't go all the way up. Easy remedy. I added an old back, lens, and folding finder from my junk box, and now I have a gorgeous 500CM for 35 bucks. Works perfect. Pretty neat, huh? BTW--A CM marked C is from 1971

Cool score.

Also from 1972. Had one that was manufactured in 1972, just prior to the model change. Found one of the rare diagonal split screens with the microprism collar and installed that.

The Continuing Revelation of Tales from the Confessional Booth

Ah, the line for the Confessional Booth is not very long this morning. And, it is moving.

Hmmmm. There really are not very many people here this morning. I cannot believe that everyone has been being THAT good this week.

OK. Now it is my turn.

Forgive me Father, for I have sinned.

Well, uhhh, yes, Father, it has been a while since I have been here to talk with you. You really noticed?

Yes, Father, I will be more diligent in my efforts to be here more often and to also come to participate in the Sacraments on Sunday morning.

Well, Father, you know already about my known addictions to things photographic. And I admit that I have been buying some other lenses, and also there have been some offers for some camera bodies that I just could not resist, Father. Yes, I know that I have given in to temptation again, but I did not intend to. In one case, all I wanted was the lens on a camera, and he did sell the lens to me for only $44, but then after I had given him the money, he also said that I had to take the camera body that it was on, along with the lens, and that he would not separate them. So I actually got the body for free, which really is very good stewardship of my resources that God has provided to me. And there are the two large 500mm telephoto refractor type lenses that I needed as a standard against which to compare all of those compact 500mm f:8 catadioptric or mirror lenses that have been gathering in the house. And I was asked to take some photographs of the lenses that fit the camera body of one manufacturer, but I did not have one of the lenses in that series, so I had to buy one of those as a model or sample to include with the others to be photographed. At least I do not need to have them sign a model release. And you know that John Nikon F is always tempting me with other tidbits and accessories for the Nikon cameras, and now I have a Nikon F-36 Motor Drive to put onto the Nikon F cameras here, but it does need just one more thing to connect from the Battery Section to the DC Power Connector on the left front corner of the F-36 Motor Drive. I think that it is called a Terminal Adapter, and it should be here probably sometime next week, so I guess that will be clear justification for me to come see you again next week, Father.

Yes, Father, I promise that I will indeed come next week. And, Father, there is one more thing. I really did give in to temptation, but in yet another way. You already know about my test equipment for testing camera bodies. That really is pretty easy and readily available. Testing lenses is a little more difficult. You may recall that last year I got a Richter R-2 Reflex Auto Collimator with the Model B Optical Bench for testing all of these lenses that are around here. And I did just say that I had bought those 500mm telephoto refractor type lenses to compare with the collection of the 500mm mirror lenses that are here. Well, to make the Optical Bench and Collimator really work properly with all of these lenses, I had to get a few more things to go with it to make it work with these long and very long lenses. So there are some five (5) foot long rods to lengthen the Optical Bench for those long lenses, and a middle support to keep the long rods from sagging in the middle, and an Auxiliary Support to hold up the front of those long lenses when mounted on the camera body or the Camera Model Calibration Standard, and another longer Test Objective Lens to cover more of the longer lens focal lengths, and all of this is just to be able to test those long and very long lenses, and I already had the Optical Bench, so it is just some things to merely extend the range of lenses that can be covered. And I really do need one more really long Test Objective Lens to be able to test lenses up to 1000mm, but that Test Objective Lens is not available right now. I do want to be able to test the lenses in a meaningful quantitative way so that my comparisons can be shown to have validity. If I am going to be sharing the results of my testing with others, I should be doing it in a way that is based on sound physical and optical principles, so, yes, I did buy the extra pieces to be able to do this.

Oh. Father, I did not know that you also have an interest in photography, and, yes, I promise that I will share the results of my testing with you also, and I really do appreciate your mercy with me in the matter of the penance for my transgressions.

Bye, Father. See you next week.

A non-focussing lens wouldnt be much good... like the famous COKETAR of years gone bye

Maybe a fixed focus lens ?
