As to paper my favourite is the 9 1/2 x 12 inch. Print my 35mm at 6x9 on it. At that size I could fit them on 8x10 but they look so cramped. On a piece of 9 1/2 x 12 they open up and look lovely just held in the hand. 7x7 inches for the 6x6 negs.

I love proofing my negs at 11x14 inches. That way I can really see what's going on with the grain / separation / etc.. From there, it's all rolls! I guess it comes from the days when I was doing paintings where I just started to see and work big. I can't count how many times I wanted to embark on a project that involved small intimate prints only to fail miserably!

In the end, I LOVE 30 x 40 inches! It sounds crazy, but for me it's large and imposing, but still really easily managed in the darkroom.

... now if they can just keep some large rolls in production I will be a happy printer!

my favorite paper size is 24x36 inches i just find it a really pleasing paper size when showing a print. however most of my work i print onto 11x14 sized sheets and have boxed. the 24x36inchers are for wall display. YAY for 24x36 inches!!!!

My default size is 11x14 paper. I usually print 35mm at 8x12, but can go as large as 9x13.5. This means square format becomes 10x10. Anything shot on ideal format is usually cropped perfectly in the enlarger one way, printed 9.5x13.5, and then I crop the other way exactly right before dry mounting.

Fred Picker said Paul Strand printed an image in different sizes and then choose the one that he liked best. Is there a one size fits all?

On the other hand Edward Weston's prints in 8x10 of different subject matter all seem very appropriate to that size. Is it that the photographer fits the subject to the paper size or the printer fits the subject to the paper in the darkroom?
