What's your favorite season to photograph?

Winter and Spring here.
I hate summer and fall - every thing is brown and dead Waterfalls aren't flowing or just a trickle. And it's hot. It'll probably still be in the upper 80s mid October.

Winter and spring are green and wet and cool. Give me a sprinkling day with a "dramatic" sky over a summer day where its clear (harsh sunlight and 90+ temperatures...)

Just for personal interest, which areas of the US use autumn and which use fall? I can see both being used by US members here.

They're interchangeable. Fall seems to be used more often. I haven't talked to anyone from anywhere in the US who doesn't use Fall at least some of the time, but I haven't talked to everybody yet.

Anytime October thru April is fine for me. The summer months are too damn hot to lug around LF gear. I still shoot during the summer, but it is mostly 35mm or digi. For the serious stuff I lug out the big cameras and tripod. Besides, the H2O coming out of the faucet is too hot to process b&w film or prints during the summer months.

I love it all.

The crispness of a bitter cold winter morning sunrise, or the extreme brightness of the sunlit snow. Love it, when my shutters don't freeze up.

The fresh air of things coming to life in spring. Oxygen, humidity, the color green, smells - they are all coming back!

The heat and humidity of summer, with all kinds of growth, wildlife, and vegetation in almost tropical conditions. Probably my least favorite, but beautiful all the same!

Autumn / Fall - All the colors, the smells of decay, and the beauty of living things prepare to go dormant in the winter. The stillness when it's still, and the autumns storms and winds can be impressive, as well as piles of leaves on the ground. It's an utterly beautiful time of year.

I can't pick a favorite. Sorry. I love it all.

We say Autumn, they say Fall, we say Autumnal, they say ..... Phallic?

Tempted to say we don't have seasons in the UK, just a sort of general grey punctuated by occasion sun. I prefer to photograph when the sun's out, I'm not fussy which month.

I love all of the year but I love the high contrast between the New England seasons here I love the cool temperature of the fall with a crisp smell in the air. It seems very cozy when you do everything. I just can't get enough of it. The trees turning is just an added bonus because even early and late fall with no leaves is nice too!

I shoot mainly in summer and autumn. In summer because I wake up early and can enjoy the beautiful light. In autumn for the same reasons as Ektagraphic said.

My darkroom is not light tight, I have to wait for darkness outside, so in the summer and fall I shoot and process film and winter and spring I print paper.

I never realized that "Fall" is called "Autumn" in different parts of the world or even the US.

It's also interesting how some of you are only shooting at certain times of year, or only processing and printing at certain times of year. I do tend to print more in the summer because my darkroom is 70 degrees and I don't have to heat trays. This is also nice for developing film too, and it keeps me out of the heat! I would much rather be outside shooting when it's cold rather than when it's hot.

It should have been Yuciapa. East of San Bernadino in the mountains. They have an apple festival in the fall [autumn] with apple pie, cider, ... worth it with the fall colors.

Went out there once in the fall and then again at Christmas last year--beautiful area, reminds me of New England in some ways (at that time of year anyway).

Autumn is my favorite time of year, what with the changing weather, spectacular colors, college football season, pumpkin pie, that extra hour of sleep...

But for photography? Hell, I don't know. Never thought about it. I don't take gear out in the rain, I don't go out in the snow if I can help it, I hate the heat. But that could mean early morning in the summer, or a dry day any time of year. Winter morning sunlight is amazing, even if it isn't icy out. Afternoon sunlight slashing through the trees in the fall or on a road overlooking a dairy farm on a misty morning near Monroe. Summer is a great time for people photography, all the folks on parade around Greenlake in Seattle, the kids at the skateboard park, little league baseball games, local parades, street fairs. A sunny spring day in the Skagit Valley when the tulip fields are awake and great flocks of snow geese are lazing about. It's all good.

Well, the golden hour is when it's neither night nor daylight. The golden season thus for me would be when it's neither summer nor winter. Although I do enjoy summer because it lets me shoot slow film without having to worry.

Getting back to the original question, there is both great light and terrible light in all seasons and I don't really have a favourite.

However, whilst I don't mind going out in the cold, I don't like it if it is too hot so that would eliminate some of the summer (even in England!).

I also don't like the type of temperatures we get in the spring and the end of the summer when it's too cool to go out without a jacket but too warm to wear it continuously!
