I have an M6 with a biogon 35mm. When I travel I also carry my Ricoh GR1v in case one of the cameras breaks.

What do you carry as a backup?

Two identical bodies each with a different focal length lens and both with the same film. I only take one type of film that way no chance of confusion. No need to change lenses and each lens uses the same size filters. Itry to keep it as simple as possible.

I don't. I use cameras that don't break. My last trip to Germany lasted a month, I brought a Nikon F with a strong strap and never even considered needing a backup.
Your M6 is about as likely to break as my F; you might better think of it as a backup to the Ricoh!:smile::laugh:

Hmmm... Depends: 1). If shooting medium format, I use a 500c/m...to back up...my other 500c/m;
2). If shooting with a rangefinder, I carry a pair of M6 bodies;
3). If shooting 35mm SLR, I carry an F2 body to backup whatever Nikon I happen to be shooting with at the time...

When I use 8x10, I'd need a porter if I wanted a backup...:laugh:

As an M2 user I don't need a back up. It always works perfectly, has never let me down and batteries not needed.

I keep in my 35mm camera bag a Pentax k-1000, a backup K-1000, and a Pentax of the technology we dont like. If all three of them malfunction, I'll just go home.... where I'll pick up another K-1000 off eBay to use as backup to the rest :D

I have three Canon F1 N - A E body's but I usually only carry one if I can help it because they are built like tanks and very reliable they don't really need a backup , but are pretty heavy, I used to carry two but it was just extra weight.

Mi second camera is an old minolta sr-7.
I really love it. Does everything - shutter job.
My lens is the very sharp auto rokkor 1,8/55.

I've a box of Sears KS-2 cameras for backup. They are for parts in case I need to fix my camera, but I've gotten a couple working and take one along as a backup. I'm thinking of getting a fully manual camera (that fits my k-mount lenses) as a backup as well.

At any given time, I seem to have 12-15 cameras backing each other up.

I keep my Mamiya 6 close at hand, even when shooting my 4x5. I haven't carried any 35mm gear since last year. I do have a Pentax IQzoom and Olympus mju laying about here some where.

If I go any distance I generally take two or three cameras with me - but they are not back-ups, I just like variety. I can't remember the last time one of my cameras failed me.

If I was in Germany my backup would be the beer garden! :D

I think I picked up my backup (or will it become my main) in a Ricoh KR-5 Super, as my main camera is a Elan 7n from Canon.

I have enough cameras that anyone of them can be a back up camera.

I don't do photography professionally so I never carry a backup. I sometimes carried more than one cameras with me but not for the back up purpose.

I carry the ricoh in case the M6 breaks or the M6 in case the ricoh breaks. The M6 is a lot less fragile but it does have problems with the reminder or jammed film advance. Never happened to me other people complain about it.
