Hey guys,

I was thinking of putting bling on my M3, and was looking at Camera Leather site. Has anyone delt with these guys here recently?

Todd

There's a hidden thread here on APUG about horror stories dealing with cameraleather.com, most folks have switched to using http://aki-asahi.com/store/

I made a purchase from them maybe 6 months ago. I received the order very quickly and the quality was great.

send morgan an email off his site and ask what his expected turn around is
i purchased from him a long while ago and knowing he had a huge backlog
gave me an idea of how long it was going to take ... it turned out OK

I'm still waiting for an order placed with him several years ago.

Aka-Asahi

They are just awesome and fast - just got some new skin for the back door of my M3 - great laser-cut stuff

It seems from various reports from the web;
when it is good, it's very good, but when it's bad......well you may pay and never see anything. That's too bad, he is the only source for my Olympus Pen F coverings.
so I'm in a bit of a quandary myself, should I pay the money and take a chance it will disappear.

Well I just went to their site and when you click on any of the site links to various supported cameras all I get is '404' not found' so it looks like their website is broken at this time.

it's been like that for quite a while, at least a year or more.

I have ordered from CameraLeather several times, most recently a few months ago.
I have always received a quality product in a timely fashion.

I would like to change my Hasselblads to Cobalt Blue which Camera Leather has but not for my SWC and which http://aki-asahi.com/store/ does not have. So I will putter around and just spend my money on film and paper which in the end are the only things that matter.

Look at Aki-Asahi Custom Camera Coverings in Japan.

This stuff is legendary for its quality and precision fit. He has told me before that what is not in stock can be made up, so I presume that applies to Hasselblads too, unless there is a usually very, very good reason for steering clear of any particular camera.
He has supplied light seals for my Pentax 67, which is a bit more intricate and absolutely fiddly than donning leathers (on the camera, I mean...).

Never had any problems with orders from Morgan, covered a Mamiya C330 last year and messed up a piece. He sent me a replacement quickly at no charge.

I ordered a red leather kit for my Leica 1f about 4 months ago. It took about 4 months to show up (!). The camera is very pretty with it but it does not fit perfectly if you look closely. It was cut a couple of mm too short. But you wouldn't notice unless I pointed it out, and the old covering had started to crumble.
The blue kit on my M3 showed up within a couple of weeks (about 2 years ago) and fits perfectly.
I also have used Aki-Asahi. "His" leathers show up within the week and are cut perfectly. But his selection is more limited and the finish is much more plasticky looking than cameraleather but still very nice.

If you can source your own leather, Aki can cut it for you. I asked for a custom a while back, but my dealer couldn't find a decent skin, so I put my money on other projects..

Be fully prepared for the fact that you may be throwing your money away by ordering from cameraleather.com

Hugostudio.com has the closest match I've ever seen to Leica vulcanite. Have covered several cameras with it...

I have no experience with cameraleather, but Aki-asahi has great quality and really fast shipping. The declaration for customs and packaging is very good, too.

I ordered replacement leather from Cameraleather and received rapid service, good communication and a good replacement leather part.

I tried to order from him twice, he still owes me $20.00, I stupidly gave him a second chance ...... my second order also never came had to do a paypal refund, he does not reply to a email and as far as I am concerned Morgan is waste of space and my time

I have put 3 orders with Aki-Asahi all were great :- service and shipping was 1st class

Stay away from camera leather

Aki Asahi will make covers and light seal foam even for cameras not listed. I just had to send him the cameras. He used them to make a template and even gave me the covers and light seals for free.

funny this thread reappeared as today i am using my 1f w extremely poor fitting leather by cameraleather.
