no this isn't a "brag thread" ... or maybe it is ?

what is the last out of the ordinary for you location you went
to make photographs. it could be a family vacation where all you had was a point and shoot
or a full out photo-safari where you went on the sole purpose to make photographs ...

i went to quebec, hadn't been in 15 years. it was nice, but i haven't had the chance to process the film

been anywhere outside of your regular stomping grounds ?

Took my 11x14 across the street to the county court house. We have a couple monuments that I use as test subjects when trying out new cameras or film. I just made my first contact prints shot on xray film tonight, I love it. Oh wait, I mis-read that and you said OUT of the ordinary, that would have been a couple of years ago, Karen and I spent a long weekend in the Finger Lakes region. We haven't had a chance to get away since, but we are planning a trip for this fall.

Try a tri! Using my first decent digicam I used it at a club race; until the powerpack went flat. Handing the disc I made up from the card to 'coach' everyone was amazed. Yonks of experience with proper cameras gave me a massive edge. Few digi users ever bother learning basic skills. So seeing themselves shot by panning they're amazed by the impression of movement in the picture. Being used to the 'mugshots' produced by the consortia pro's shooting 'official' pics they don't get anything artistic. I'm surprised that no-one's spotted this market!

Mississippi river bank south of St Louis city

Typos made on a tiny phone...

On the open sea - on a ~300 meters long container ship. My job sometimes puts me there. Not exactly best for my style, but it was out of ordinary.

From the trip (old expired paper):

Point Lobos.

Shell Mountain, Yolla Bolly Middle Eel Wilderness. Spent the night up there during a week-long solo backpacking trip. But that was a year ago to celebrate my 60th birthday -- sad to think I have been to no place else I think is extraordinary.

Made a nice little 2 1/4 x 2 1/4 platinum print of my shadow on the old western juniper tree on top.

France last May.

Serengeti, Ngorongoro, Manyara & Lake Natron. Returned today and it will take me some time to digest everything I saw. Had been a dream of mine since I was 9 years old and saw the first documentary in Germany on T.V.
Can't wait to develop and print.

If Vietnam was a human being, Ho Chi Minh would most definitely be its heart! A high-octane city of commerce and culture that has driven the whole country forward with its pulsating energy. A chaotic whirl, the city breathes life and vitality into all who settle here! With nearly 8 million inhabitants, it is a lively and animated city with so much to offer from the finest of hotels to the cheapest of guesthouses, the classiest of restaurants to the tastiest of street stalls, the choicest of boutiques to the cheap markets. Ho Chi Minh city really is a city of contrast and diversity!

I don't hunt for subjects or locations;I create scenes in the studioas they appeared in my head:cool:

i never suggested that one would be hunting subjects or location, i asked
what places were gone to that weren't the usual places you go.
there is a difference between the two, unless you are
the kind of photographer who just goes places
and searches for things to photograph.
and there is a difference between going someplace
for the sole purpose to photograph and going someplace to hunt for photographs.

i am guessing if a person who went on the iceland or faroe island trips with bill schwab
they didnt' go to hunt photographs ... they went to a new, beautiful, interesting and different place
to be moved by the landscape, architecture, and people ... maybe it is "hunting for photographs"
but it seems different ...
