what would it be that you would design if you could design anything?

How about a modern 6x9 roll film reflex camera with landscape orientation with interchangeable backs, designed to be lightweight and comfortably hand held. Right now have my rf Medalist, which works just fine but something like that would be nice to have. Well, actually I have everything I’ll ever need already.

I would like a bathroom scale that shows the weight I want to be and then causes the appropriate body changes.
you gotta talk to lonny or is it ronny, he'll just tell you a weight you say you want to be

Not feeling very creative this week...

What I would like has already existed: a tri-color plate camera.

Ok, taking that idea further: consider a film which actually has three emulsions. Like the tri-color camera, the emulsions are just black and white. Then just as with the tri-color camera's filters, somehow there are filter layers in this emulsion. When processed, color would somehow need to be added to the appropriate emulsion during development. I don't know if this is possible - it would probably need a dozen steps. Who would even buy such a film? It might be popular for a while, but eventually it'd be discontinued - though some enthusiasts would love it. Anyway, it's easier just to have an E6 film.

A lens filter that not only corrects any focus problem but also improve lighting, exposure and composition as the shutter release is depressed.

I would call it Tri-chrome. I think I'll take this idea to Kodak; maybe they can come up with something!

How about a camera with a tricroic prism to take colour seperation images on panchromatic B&W film?
Colour that lasts “forever” and incredible resolution.
Has it been done?
I know it’s been done with splitter mirrors and RGB filters, with huge loss in light that implies. But with with prisms and dichroic filters?

I think you have to be a musician to take this kind of idea to EK.

I play tenor sax, but my friend, Paul, who is also Hungarian, told me he was pretty successful singing in the 1970's. Maybe we could could come up with something. If anyone has ideas for lyrics about a film, let me know!

I have long wanted to make a device (or 2) that could be used in a darkroom under the light path from an enlarger that could make infinite shapes/openings so I would not have to use pieces of card cut to various configurations to be used when I am burning in or dodging B&W prints. I have loads of them made out of card cut to shapes supported on fine wire for that purpose, but whenever I look for a particular one I need I can never find one that fits the purpose exactly and end up making yet another. A 'one size fits all' device would suit me perfectly.

One other thing I would love to make is an electronic device that block mobile phone signals in a restaurant so when I am out for a quiet meal with my 'other half ', so we are not constantly interrupted by inane, meaningless, annoying, stupid pointless chatter from other customers sitting close by.

The op was far too long winded to read to the end, so I'll just assume this is a photography related 'anything' and say I'd design a Pentax 67III. It would be an update of the 67II by having a properly damped, non clunking mirror and a 2nd tripod mount for portrait orientation (like my 645NII).

It's been done. What is needed is essentially a Faraday Cage (a wire mesh of specific dimensions that blocks the designated cellphone wavelengths). The mesh is typically embedded in the walls and ceiling of an inner room (no windows). Electronics companies testing WiFi or other radio frequency equipment have test chambers so constructed.

A Google search will reveal some people have cobbled these rooms together as home-made signal blockers - but this opens them up to liability because emergency calls could be blocked. Actual spectrum jammers have been around for decades, but are illegal (unauthorized, unlicensed transmission). I was told that some places in Japan have a "wave wall" so that customers cannot use their phones inside

yup
but then the problem is all the brainwashed people wandering around the restaurant &c trying to get "a better signal"
because they are unable to have a conversation or a person to person encounter without being distracted by
cat videos on youtube. a friend who used to work at a bar used to tell me that people ( couples ) used to come in together
sit next to eachother at the bar, grab a table together and just stare at their phones for a couple of hours, never have
a conversation, except with the waitstaff or bartenders, and then leave....

Typically, they put a Faraday Cage around modern particle accelerators. If one is breached while the magnets are up and running, the local cell and broadcast stations can suffer an outage. I think that some of these ideas might be great and others marginal.

I want to make a space ship based on Alcubierre's (SP?) equations.

I was thinking something far more subtle. Such as a hand held device that makes the closest phone being used implodes or just dies for at least 60 minutes.
