I've been buying and shooting a lot of color negative film lately. Mostly Kodak Portra 400 and some Portra 800. Haven't bought any gear in a few years.

Talked to David Maheu yesterday, he has some backgrounds around he used to set up at shows. Some great new deals for me, so I have seven new photo backgrounds coming. BTW he has moved to Rhode Island. He said to me "these are all good backgrounds". I've wanted these for a while.

or, shelve all my 35mm cameras and just shoot medium and large format.

I can just see it now, large format holders loaded with strips of 35mm films, colour and B&W and medium format sheet film holders doing likewise. 👏

I think reloading 35mm is gonna be much simpler, but good luck either way.

Took advantage of Freestyle's 40% off with their Foma 4x5 (iso 100) film. Gotta git it while the gittin is good.

Ohh! I fergot . . . added two cameras to the arsenal. A Conley 5x7 with a Three Focus Rapid Rectilinear. And a minty Toyo 4x5 45a from Osaka Japan. I highly recommend buying directly from vendors in Japan. They can be found on eBay easy enough.

They are the best! They always way under rate their wares.

That has not been my experience. I see Japanese vendord rating lenses as "Top Mint+" that have fungus and separation. I got a lens once claimed to be mint and discovered it had been serviced and improperly reassembled. I got a Fuji GW690 with a low shutter count displayed only to discover the counter had been disconnected.

So, I never buy from Japan unless the seller has a perfect rating and pays for return.

Sorry to hear that. I've dealt with many over the years. Never an issue.

Yeah, I expect that the rate of problems is likely no worse than anywhere else, it's just that returns from outside Japan are more lengthy.

You do have to read the details carefully in the eBay ads though. The Headline will claim great quality, but the detailed condition explanation often reveals are more challenged product

I will say, I've never lost money and returns have always been graciously accepted. That's why I only deal with companies in Japan with 100% seller ratings and who pay for return shipping.

I've had exceptional good luck buying via Japan since about 2005. Due diligence is always required. I hammer vendors with questions until they reveal everything or quit responding . . . while being professional and courteous at all times. Of course good photos are worth a million words. I'll even ask them to post more specific photos, especially where glass is concerned.

50 sheets of 8x10 cut from a roll of Aviphot 200, that MCB18 is offering. Hopefully it'll be in my hands soon! My wife said that's my Christmas present...

Is it going to be 8x10 or 8x9.5? It'd be really wasteful cutting that roll down as 8x10s - 50 sheets adds up to 100 inches for the sake of about 1/2 an inch on the long side. I have one of those rolls. I can attest to the quality and it does work well in an 8x10 holder (as in, it's not too thin).

Japan is where I have found the nicest items. With the current exchange rate between USD and Japan Yen I've been picking up some beautiful Nikon Ai manual focus lenses.

Oh, the last thing I bought was a battery pack, an extra.

I'm going to try and not buy anything until after the holidays, B&H sends everything FedEx and I want to keep my driver in shape for 2024 😁

Got 3 rolls of "short dated" rolls of Kodak Tmax 400 in 120 & a 35mm roll of Ferrania Orto 50 from FPP.

For anybody that wants to get some cheap-ish 120 rolls of (hardcore Only Fresh Film shooters, avert your eyes!!!) slightly expired 120 Kodak Tmax films, FPP is having a "short date" sale on some expired Kodak Tmax 100 (expired 08/23) & Tmax 400 (expired 09/23), each priced at $5.99
